This is like awarding echl franchises:)

Cincy has been amazing but part of me wonders what happens when it isn’t new and cool and there is no cup run? Like what have they really proven? I know Nashville hasn’t proven anything either but they have the SS stadium deal. I think it’s Sacramento. I’m wondering if they’re holding off to see what happens with Columbus/Austin?

I think I said a few pages back that Cincy would be the first one, and I thought that would be due to Columbus leaving, despite what appears to be strong support that could simply be redirected further south.

I don't see how Detroit gets a team. Of course I said that before and they moved on to the final four. Still, a soccer specific stadium would have made it a shoe in in my eyes. Instead we have Ford Field. Closed roof stadium for a league that plays in the summer. Perfect...

Sac is reportedly having ownership group problems and Cincy hasn’t finalized their stadium deal (and if they announce they’ll play at Nippert temporarily that deal could be in trouble). They’re supposed to announce the other teams in the new year.

Can someone explain the reasoning why on the EPL app, Tottenham is referred to as "Spurs" while all the other teams go by their town/city?

I don't know many of the EPL nicknames (Gunners & Red Devils is it). Do all the clubs have one?

"Rovers" often doesn't even use their city name. Which is inconvenient because there seem to be as many as Huskies or Bulldogs.

I think almost every squad has a nickname (e.g., "Cottagers" for Fulham). Remember that baseball teams didn't create their own nicknames -- they were bestowed by beat writers as shorthand. I dunno but I suspect association squads were named the same way in the mists of time.

So the FA Cup Final is scheduled for the same day as the Royal wedding, which presents a bit of a problem for the President of The FA, Prince William.

Whoops.

And it's the day when Henry VIII became a widower for the first time.

Plus
For I'm gettin' married in the mornin'
Ding dong! the bells are gonna chime.
Kick up an rumpus
But don't lost the compass;
And get me to the match,
Get me to the match,
For Gawd's sake, get me to the match on time!

They'll get married at halftime.

Gulati's VP Cordiero becomes new President of US Soccer with 68% of the votes.

Re: World Soccer XXVIII: Campeones de NorteAmérica.

US Soccer has a new President in Carlos Cordeiro. He was the Vice President previously. Here’s a rundown on what’s going on now:

1. The Twitter bots and Reddit bots are going full meltdown about an “establishment candidate” winning. According to them US Soccer is fully doomed and nothing will change. Also something about MLS/SUM cartel conspiracy.

2. In contrast to above, US Soccer announced they have begun the process to hire General Managers for both the Men’s and Women’s systems to run the soccer side of things.

3. There’s a bit of kerfluffle involving the Athletes Council voting and attendance. A few reporters mentioned on Twitter that Heather O’Reilly flew from London to attend and vote despite having a game tomorrow while Brad Guzan and Jonathan Spector didn’t attend “while only being in MLS Preseason” and a few “isn’t that odd *wink*” comments. Clapping back, Stu Holden said the “Athletes Council decided to vote as a bloc and had a meeting prior to the voting with all involved.”

4. Hope Solo is still crazy.

Oh, forgot this:

5. The Players, via the Athletes Council voting as a bloc, decided this election not, as the anti-MLS folks around Twitter think, the “soccer establishment.” They have, by law, 20% of the vote and, given the wide open election, were able to effectively leverage that. It’ll be interesting to see their thought process and discussions about who to support and why.

Liverpool Red Sox??

Rovers was my nickname back in the Hattrick days. I miss that game.
