Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

I know what the rule is and it wasn't intended for what we just saw.

Doesn't matter what it was intended for. Rules are rules. We had plenty of chances in the second half to get an equalizer and didn't do it.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

So who's buying their tickets for the USA Mexico Confederations Cup Playoff in Vancouver?

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Nevermind. Red card now. And for some reason Mexico thinks its their business to get in Panama's face.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

BTW the referee for MEX-PAN is American Mark Geiger. Talk about being in a lose-lose situation.

I didn't blame the loss on that call, just think it's stupid to call that. There are plenty of rules in various sports that aren't enforced to the letter of the law. It's why there is something called common sense. The rule was meant to penalize keepers from taking away potential scoring opportunities etc. The actual release point there while he is standing in the area has no impact on anything. You let that go.

They also started focusing on the six second rule. Definitely a strange time to start going by the book.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Why do I have a feeling Mexico will be stumbling around to another win here?

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Mexico needs to be forced to play in empty stadiums for the next... oh... ten games or so. Years and years of throwing bottles on the field at other teams.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot is going on? I just saw Mexico got a PK but it hasn't been taken yet?

Edit: Not able to watch on tv.

Panamanian player was challenging in the box and did fine. After that he was either pushed back by the Mexican player or fell backwards on his own, it's debatable. Then he landed on the ball on his side so his arm touched and a penalty was called for handball. I thought the rule was it had to be intentional or outside of the body in a way that makes you bigger, but he just feel right back on it so it's not like he was holding the ball or anything.

Panama began arguing, then Mexican fans began throwing bottles at the Panama bench. Panama started yelling at Mexico to control their fan base once in awhile. I think Mexico said something along the lines of "Screw you guys" because Panama suddenly started rushing towards the Mexican bench. They met at midfield and I saw a bottle fly from Panama's side to Mexico's, so I think a player threw it. Then the officials came in and broke it up, kind of. Then Torres from Panama started bi*ching out Mexico's coach, who stood there with a stupid look on his face going "what? I don't see what's wrong, what are you talking about?." The trash continued to rain down so Panama moved to midfield for about ten minutes before it finally stopped. It almost looked like Panama wasn't going to go back on the field, and I wouldn't have blamed them.

Then the penalty finally came at 100 minutes. The penalty was called at 88. It barely got by the Panamanian goalie. Now it's extra time.

Geiger blew this game, big time. Really the only thing he can do now is not let the stadium catch fire in the next 30 minutes.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Yet you all watch that "not fixed" sport. What a joke.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

And you'll watch Cleveland v Jacksonville in Week 12...

I might. Depends if I have a player in there.

World soccer had their president INDICTED and such for corruption. Every tourney, there is complaining about bad calls and fixes and (obvious) dives. Yet you still flock to it. Why should world soccer change anything? They are still making money off of you.

The NFL with their scab refs were still making money a couple years ago, but at least they realized...hey, it's hurting the Shield. And they solved the problem.

Because its apples and oranges to compare the NFL, a private business in the US, to FIFA, a worldwide governing body for a sport.

And the NFL is not immune to accusations of fixing and corruption.
