Red card for Colombia's goaltender.

They're down to 1 left.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

That was def a red card, but not sure if in the box. Right on the line (not sure what rule is)

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

They're on their third string goalie now, right? Or was that another team that had their starter suspended for two yellows?

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Oh come on, this is basically writing the script for the female Miracle on Grass.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

I see the poor penalty taking from the U20s carried over...

And $5 says a US Player gets a red card in the next 20 minutes.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

That's only a goal because the 3rd stringer is in

3rd string goalie, 10 players, and that's the only goal scored during run of play?

This lack of offense does not bode well. Even with Rapinoe and Holiday suspended for the quarters, USA probably moves on to the semis, after another shutout win. But against either Germany or France? uh oh.

US never wins the WC since the first one. So it's no big deal. We apparently prefer Olympic glory.

I wonder about their ability to move on at all. Their attack has been one dimensional the whole tournament: get the ball to Rapinoe out wide, Rapinoe crosses to Wambach. Now that that's gone, what do they do?

Jill Ellis should be replaced, their offensive plan is awful. They certainly have better players that aren't being used correcting in this system, at least on the offensive side. This group is very skilled and yet they rarely use it.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Once Press came in yesterday, it did seem like her and Morgan had some nice creativity that has been severely lacking throughout this tournament. I'm curious to see how they play on Friday or if Press just replaces Rapinoe as Abby's crossing partner.

She's a prima donna. Didn't even play in the first half of the NWSL season. I hope she retires after this tournament.

If she can be covered in the air, like the Swedes did, she doesn't seem particularly effective. Didn't see all of the Brazil-Australia match, but it looks like Marta stayed on one WC too many also.

I don't join in "fire the coach" discussions, but it does seem that they try to win every game 0-0.

The part that gets me is saying she was happy with the way they played yesterday.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Wambach wondered aloud if the ref was biased against the U.S. because of the yellows.

I'm glad she brought that up, because only getting two penalties and Colombia playing with 10 and their third string for almost the entire 2nd seemed like the ref was really favoring the girls in yellow.

At the time when those fouls happen, I think you could have asked about bias. I think the redcard on the goalie was pretty obvious, but both yellow cards were a bit weak. Rapinoe probably more likely deserved one than Holiday...
