Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

My surmise is an opposite. It is like the senior Mayor Daley in Chicago: he personally wanted the power and the prestige and truly did not care about the cash. Everyone (literally, it seems, given how many were convicted) else around him was on the take in one way or another, and they were all taken down. You can be sure that the feds tried everything in their power to find something on Daley, and they failed, because he was happy enough just being Mayor without the extra cash.

Blatter lives a luxurious lifestyle and gets to be a really really big deal VIP. He seems to operate smoothly using a wink and a nod. I'll bet you no one will be able to find anything sufficient to prove corruption on Blatter's part because he craved the power and status more than the money.

While he no doubt knew through back-channels who was on the take, he also was savvy enough to know that he could always use that as blackmail against them if he really needed to, while all the while able to maintain deniability due to lack of personal involvement.

Many have written that the simple reason that Blatter won is because the longer he is in power, the longer all these secrets stay secret. The sooner he is ousted, the sooner many other things beyond these indictments come to light.

I don't buy it. The big key will be Jack Warner, he knows where the bodies are buried so to speak, and if he's facing federal pound-me-in-the-* penitentiary he's bringing Blatter with him.

So do UEFA and COMNEBOL play nice until all their ducks in a row? When do they drop the hammer and say we're outta here?

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

And the FA Cup stays with Arsenal. 4-0 Gunners over Villa.

I suspect Blatter is correct when he says this will not affect the US's chances of hosting in 2026 - can't get lower than zero. :(

We'll make our own World Cup, with blackjack and hookers.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

I guess it could be in Africa again but there don't seem to be many countries outside of Europe that really should host.

Here at Red Bull Stadium watching the USWNT playing Korea. Really good crowd. The American Outlaws have a section and they're cheering non stop. Like a really good student section at a college football game. Except they chant "Let's go US" clap clap clapclapclap and it sounds like they're saying "Let's go UMass!" Heh.

FIFA announced a change for 2026 bidding allowing Europe to bid. Basically screwing us. Again.

In reality, it'll cause N. America and Europe to vote split and allow some Blatter approved backwater to win.

Also, no way the US even bids again anytime soon. Unless DOJ wants to set up a few stings...

Should we bet the ranch on Greece?

Sure as heck won't be England. Ole Sepp loves screwing them just as much as us.
