On a different subject, I wonder what the reception for the US team will be like next week in the friendlies in Germany and the Netherlands?

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

Just on a quick count I can only find 50 votes I am fairly confident won't go to Sepp (of 209). But that still leaves him with 76% of the vote and a win in only 1 round (two-thirds majority).

Admittedly I don't really know what all of the island nations are thinking and there are a fair number of them that could at least help push the vote to a 2nd round.

Probably no difference. If they were going to Russia, however...

Is the vote public?
Not sure. It does seem that countries or groups tend to announce who they are voting for, but I'm not familiar enough with the process to know if the individual votes are required to be public knowledge. No big secret here, with Africa and Asia largely supporting Blatter as well as probably some other folks here and there.

Seeing reports of CONMEBOL agreeing not to vote for Blatter. Doesn't exactly mean votes for Ali though.

But that's pretty much the final piece to a possible defection by the power countries.

Fox Sports 2 covering the election - LIVE.

209 votes counted - 209 votes in the room. Black smoke or white smoke??

Now on Fox Sports 1. 12:32 pm ET

Interesting. I read elsewhere that Brazil wasn't expected to vote, as one of their representatives was among those arrested and the other had left Switzerland to avoid the possibility of arrest.

2/3 not achieved! 2nd ballot needed.

133-73 for Sepp.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

We're going to extra time! 133-73 for Blatter. Not a 2/3rds majority so we get a second vote.

Re: World Soccer XXVI: Fun for MLS Fans and Eurosnobs Alike

From The Guardian:

We will have a second round of voting! Blatter gains 133 to Prince Ali's 73: not enough for two-third majority

Of the 209 votes, three were spoiled and so only 206 counted.

Second round is simple majority.
