Also: it's not that you're wrong. It's just that you're not listening. Your arguments aren't bad because they're wrong, they're bad because they have nothing to do with anything we are talking about.

Legions of women’s soccer fans in United States return to hibernation for another four years.

“We, the best fans in the world, had a great time following the World Cup these past few weeks,” stated the gathered masses at watch parties in Kansas City, Boston, New York, and Orlando. “We would like to thank the United States women for winning the World Cup and we promise to return, mostly, in 2023 as long as the team is good and has a chance to win the World Cup then as well.”

The United States has the fourth most medals in Alpine, and the third most gold medals in the history of the sport. If you look at alpine medals in this millennia the USA is second. Or is there a different "rich country" that you're referring to?

Before this digresses too much, why should football/ soccer be such an important sport to the US? Why do mls fans and teams put so much effort in being just like European or South America fans? There are no FC’s in this country and no royalty where we should pretend to be Real.

The sport has been around for more than long enough to “catch on” but it hasn’t. Just accept that, and move on. The national team did better when they just accept that. We need to stop trying to be like someone else and just play US soccer.

This. It's a niche sport in America. Yes, I watched 3 of the last 4 women's WC games (missed Tue's game due to me working), but I cannot say I'm a fan. I wanted to root for and support my country's team. Will I care for another 4 years? I won't, I'll be honest. Does that make me a bad fan? *shrug* if it does. I don't care.

Soccer fans should adopt the hockey fan's mantra: We don't need you. We'll welcome you if you want to join, but we won't shame you for being a short-term or casual fan. We know who the real fans are, and so be it.

It’s because, unlike hockey, people have actively derided the sport as “boring” or “gay” or “only for foreigners” etc. for decades. It’s actually worse for the MNT and MLS, even people who like the sport (people who will wake up at whatever morning time to watch EPL or Real/Barca) will be like “it’s trash” or “they ****ing suck why do they even pay them?”

The article I linked is mostly a call out to those people, people who’ll spend hundreds going to a pointless Euro exhibition and then loudly complain the WNT doesn’t make as much money while being incapable of going down the street to an NWSL game and spending $20.
