Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?
If I did my math right, if the US wins at Antigua and gets at least a tie with Guatemala in Kansas City, then they are through no matter what, because Jamaica and Guatemala have to play each other.
Let's assume Jamaica also will beat Antigua. That would give US and Jamaica each 10 points and Guatemala 7, with the two Guatemala games not yet scored:
> Guatemala beats Jamaica, ties US; US and Guatemala advance, each with 11 points, Jamaica third with 10 points
> Jamaica beats Guatemala, US ties Guatemala, Jamaica 13 points US 11 points, guatemala 8 points
> Jamaica ties Guatemala, US ties Guatemala, US and Jamaica advance, each with 11 points, guatemala 9 points.
Given their erratic play, however, the USMNT cannot take Antigua lightly. They (Antigua) likely will be jacked, playing at home, and would probably be delighted with a 0 - 0 tie. then the US would face a must-win vs Guatemala in KC.
