World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Supporter pressure. It's not like they have been brilliant since he took over in 2010.
Sure, but why not fire him mid-season last year if you want to bring in someone else to try to keep them from getting relegated? Or at the end of the year? Why wait until he's had what seems to be a pretty good transfer window* (Murphy and Etuhu will be good signings for them), let him spend all that money on Rhodes, wait until the team is off to a good start (sure, the loss to Boro isn't great, but still, 2nd place is 2nd place), and then sack him?

* How did it wind up that they signed six Portuguese players this summer? That seems tremendously random.

I don't really care who ends up the coach, as long as they move back to the EPL for next season and Venky's stops dicking them over as an ownership group.

What's the difference between QPR and a triangle?

A triangle has three points.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Erik Soler out at NY Red Bulls. Former Liverpool man Gerard Houiller in as sporting director and Jerome De Bontin in as general manager. Interesting timing.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Pompey's won 2 games in 4 days. Starting to gel a bit, loving the fight from this team.

Once the team's out of administration, they'll receive a 10 point penalty, which basically puts them at 1 point earned so far this season, but only 5 points clear of safety. So if the good form continues, there's a darn good chance of them staying in League 1 despite the -10.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Didn't they just qualify for the playoffs? That is interesting timing...
Not yet qualified, if Wikipedia is to be believed, and in a tight race to avoid the play-in round.

Is that one time only?

It would be great to see them eek it out and begin next season on even footing.

It was supposed to be one time only last year, which let to relegation to League 1.

But for some inane reason we have another, additional 10 point penalty this year...for...what? For the FA appointed Admin not doing his job? Not getting Pompey a new, stable owner? The Portsmouth Supporter's Trust has been wanting to buy the club for close to 4 months now, but the Administrator won't let them.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Double post...

Pompey was up 2-0 to MK Dons today, and ended up drawing 2-2.

Still, 7 points in the last 3 games is solid. The team is certainly trending up.

Can't disagree with Klinsmann that Altidore hasn't distinguished himself for the MNT lately, though he has been in good form for AZ. On the other hand Gomez has done really well with his opportunities and I think he probably deserves to start.

Also, can we really not do any better than Kyle Beckerman?

There must be explicit criteria to qualify a bid, right? Are they failing to demonstrate sufficient financial resources or somesuch?

This makes me very, very happy:

Chainrai's a big reason Pompey is in trouble in the first place. Giving him the reins again would likely liquidate the club in short order.

I'm not sure if the PST has the funds to run the club at the level they're at...but I'd just assume the club be stable as a League 2 or even a non-FL club than go under entirely.
