Watching the game live, they showed about 4 minutes later another camera angle, this one from the other side (closer to where the ref was standing actually) that showed the ball coming down and hitting his open palm and going into the net.
I can say with certainty that neither the Referee nor the AR saw what happened beyond the fact that the ball went in the net. The AR, standing at the corner on the near side, didn't see beacuse Reis shielded him from the view, the Referee because the crush of players screened his view. The Referee could've moved for a better view but with corner kicks on the non-AR side you are a bit rooted to a certain area because of all the things you have to keep an eye on, bad luck his AR got screened.

I hate a lot of the comments that people make about referees because most of them are very ignorant, especially about MLS referees. The USSF referee program is one of the better ones in the world, certainly some of the questionable officiating seen in CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, Asia, and some of the middle-lower tier UEFA countries you can compare to will show that. I love it when people say that they could easily be an MLS referee, not knowing the amount of work needed to get even close. I think it would shock people to know what you need to know, by heart, by instinct, to be an MLS referee.

Is that really the standard we want to hold our officials to? I mean, they're better than Slovenia's refs? Congratulations I guess.

I understand that it is a lot of work- I was a USSF referee for a few years but had to give it up because of time commitments. I hope to get back into it some time. But it just seems like there have been a lot of gaffes this year.

There's always room for improvement and they are striving for it, but everybody makes them out to be a bunch of keystone cops bumbling around. Are they on the level of some of the English, German, Italian, or Spanish referees? No but they aren't far off.

MLS referees will never win. They don't call fouls or hand out cards and they're letting too much go, call the fouls and hand out cards and they're just trying to bring attention to themselves.

The problem is that the fans gave up a long time ago and Kraft just kept stringing them along. For years and years it has been "we will be in our own stadium in Boston soon." For years and years it has been "we will sign a DP soon." I think what happened is that every kind of collectively reached a point where they had had enough. Sure, they had made the playoffs for that long string, but the last few of those years ('08 and '09), the league was obviously changing, and the Revs were just plugging away with 10 grinders and Taylor Twellman. That's fine, until Taylor Twellman has to retire. Last year all the word from the front office was "We'll be okay when Twellman comes back," despite the fact that counting on a dude with 19 concussions to come back isn't really a long term plan.

I know a lot of people couched their season ticket renewals and such this past winter on the team doing SOMETHING other than signing 18 year old Africans from tiny countries and drafting the best available Demon Deacon. Signing overage Frenchmen and Eastern Europeans no one has heard of didn't really do it for anyone, I don't think. And it shouldn't have- it's a terrible product right now.

Frankly, the ownership has shown that it gives less than a **** about the team. Why should the fans?

Edit: Also, I failed to mention that they still haven't spent the money from the Clint Dempsey sale to Fulham, unless it went to Tom Brady's extension.

I agree. In 2012 most of the 19 teams in MLS will be in a stable, suitable stadium for their needs. No one thinks Seattle should vacate Qwest and even BC Place can be modified so the Whitecaps have a great game day venue. The Earthquakes seem to be making progress and should be able to break ground on a new venue soon.

The only two exceptions are DC and New England. The former have been in a desperate search for a new venue to flee the festering hole that is RFK, but from New England all I've ever heard is vague references to Alston(?) or somewhere along the T Line. I know Boston is a terrible place to build for a number of reasons, but theres never been much evidence owernship has ever put in much effort to circumnavigate these issues.

Kraft is owed a lot for sticking with the team and league during the dark years of 1998-2002, but at some point there has to be a breaking point. If an ownership group with plans for a new stadium close to Boston arose in the next few years I'd sure as hell hope MLS would listen to what they have to say. "MLS Boston" might be the only way to wake him up.

Allston like where the Harvard athletics complex is? That'd be pretty sweet if they could work something out around there. Actually, why couldn't they work something out at Harvard Stadium, at least as a stopgap?

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay? I really want to attend the match, but am short on funds. I hope they don't sell out too quickly/stay cheap enough through StubHub/eBay etc.

And the stadium is privately financed; he didn't hijack the taxpayers of Massachusetts for a billion dollars to build it.

$65/ticket with $10 in ticket master fees/ticket. There were some as low as $50.

Chivas and Philly both pass on Jonathan Bornstein allocation, NE on the clock. I have... little faith.

Rumblings of NE trying to work out a trade with Houston.

I have to laugh because yesterday when ManUre brought Michael Owen on at SJP Ian Harke wondered what the reaction would be and he was booed so loudly.

What did they expect?

Those two points dropped mean we don't hand them the title yet...even though it's basically over.

Monterey went up 1-0 on Real Salt Lake, so naturally they pull two of their best players 20 mins in. RSL knots it up 1-1

MLS4RSL. That goal was a long time coming, Salt Lake was creating left, right, and center when that goal was scored.

Salt Lake is just scary good.
