World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Right, but sometimes guys are actually injured and not just acting like they're hurt more severely than they are.

Perfect, if they're injured enough to be stretchered off, perhaps they shouldn't continue.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

I'm as a liberal as they come and I love soccer. The right hates soccer because you can't do the American thing and outmuscle people by taking steroids and beat people into submission like you can in American sports like football and basketball. :D

Let's not over-generalize here. I'm a classical liberal and I'm a soccer fan. "The right" and "the left" aren't monoliths, but far-left and far-right are fairly fringe and uniform and yes, most of them hate soccer, just another reason why they suck.

Didn't all of sarah palin's kids play soccer?

Maybe they should, though. At the very least, maybe they need to be evaluated - what if a guy twists his ankle, but you're not sure if it's sprained or not? Should the team doctor hold up the game to spend a couple of minutes evaluating him right there on the field?

It just doesn't make sense for there to be a blanket rule like that because some guys fake injuries.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

It just occurred to me, now that ghanarrhea is up, over/under on minute of first player to be stretchered off for ghana?

Let's hear your predictions.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Great ball by Forlan that gets wiped out by the challenge at the top of the box.

Could have been called a foul since the Ghana player went up pretty reckless and never got the ball.

Was OUTSIDE the box though and not a penalty.

Fine, make it 15 minutes. 20 minutes. I don't care. You need to punish them for this.

And don't act like this a small amount. This is an epidemic in soccer that is truly holding it back in the US. And quite frankly, this is becoming worse and worse every year. This is by far the most I've ever seen in a single tournament.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Anybody else been to Elmina Castle in Ghana, the oldest European building south of the Sahara in Africa?

Their under-20 team, known as the Black Satellites, defeated Brazil to win the 2009 U-20 World Cup!

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

When a player is stretchered off the field, it is up to the referee to motion him back on to the field. Until then, his team is down a man. I'd like to see the referee really make a player wait if he feels like his injury was not legitimate. That wouldn't require any change of the rules, and still hold players more accountable.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

It's always fun to root against Diego Forlan, though not quite as much today as when he was botching things regularly at ManU!

But the problem is, you're also "punishing" players who haven't done anything wrong with the suggestions you're making.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

JMHO, but all this talk about stretchers/faking injuries. The game would be a lot better if slide tackling wasn't allowed.

LOL at Uruguayan coach...love his goal celebration. Same thing every time.

Re: World Soccer XVI: The Sadness

Thank you Uruguay. And Red Cloud, I would've loved it if the US got far and the Glenn Becks of the world had to choose between their nativism and their patriotism. Their heads would have exploded at that point. :D

I think I speak for everyone here in saying that is not a good idea. It would be like taking away stealing in baseball. No leadoffs either.
