Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I want to play the Aussis. Why wouldnt you want to play Australia? That is a team the US beat 4-0 in a pre world cup match, and maybe one of the weaker squads in the World Cup. They do have a chance to advance today with some help.

3-1, not 4-0. But your point remains. ;)

Anyone see the 30 for 30 on the Two Escobars from last night?

Very good film so far. I'm watching it as a filler between matches today!:D

Quick turn around for the US. They play again Saturday at 2:30, while England plays on Sunday.

Yep, I watched it last night.

By the way, I thought Bornstein played pretty well. I was horrified to see him in the starting lineup but pleasantly surprised with his play.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I talked to two of my friends who are in Britain today (one is British the other is an American there) and they both lived two different scenarios.

-The Brit was let out of work early to get to the pub for the game, watched Eng-Slo on 8 of the 10 tvs, with the other game on the remaining two. He said there was a huge sense of relief when England scored because everyone was happy that they were getting out of group.

-The American was in a pub that had a TON of people rooting for the US and said the bar went nuts when Donovan scored. He said the English weren't all that upset that they were second in the group, feeling that either way they are going to get a tough draw.

The Black Stars are in white and Germany is in black. That took a double take.

Every time I hear "Schweinsteiger" all I can think of is "He would have an enormous Schwanzstucker."

Interesting item:

I took the stats for number of caps and goals for the US National Team, calculated a goals-per-cap statistic and took note of who has been our most productive scorers, historically.

I initially thought I should limit it to a minimum of 10 caps, here are the top 7:

Peter Millar (68-72), 13 caps, 8 goals, 0.615 GPC
Willy Roy (65-73), 20 caps, 10 goals, 0.500 GPC
Kenny Cooper (2007-09), 10 caps, 4 goals, 0.400 GPC
Landon Donovan (2000- ), 125 caps, 43 goals, 0.344 GPC
Jozy Altidore (2007- ), 27 caps, 9 goals, 0.333 GPC
Eric Wynalda (90-00), 106 caps, 34 goals, 0.321 GPC
Brian McBride (93-06), 95 caps, 30 goals, 0.316 GPC

Kind of some odd abberations at the top of the list. Suppose I should have set the minimum number of caps at 25.

It's pronounced "eye gor"

I'm late to the party here, but my three favorite things:

1. The announcer said it too, but Howard's outlet was brilliant, perfect counter attack.

2. DeMerit somersaulting the pile.

3. Landon covering his head when he saw his teammates coming. That's awareness people. :D

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I hope there is a special place in hell for this guy.

Algerian player slaps female reporter

Eh...I can think of a few reporters, even (especially?) female ones, I'd have paid money to see get smacked by athletes after asking asinine questions. (Jim Grey probably tops the list).

Not saying she deserved it in this case since she said she didn't provoke him, but I'm not sure the guy deserves to go to hell over it.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

US Soccer wins in the 91st minute to win its group and advance at the World Cup, and it's probably going to be the #3 sports story tonight...
