Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

US has a favorable draw for next 2 matches. Not easy by any means, but favorable compared to the alternative scenarios.

Here is their path to the finals.

Uruguay
South Korea

United States
Ghana

Germany
England

Argentina
Mexico

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I will say, our path to the semis is set up fairly nicely. Likely Ghana, followed by either Uruguay or South Korea? I'll take that over the Germany/Argentina/Mexico side of the bracket.

Agreed. Couldn't be set up better.

Granted...Every team that has made it to the knockout round is a good club and by no means is this American team a juggernaut...But you have to like the way they have played in the second half of their last two matches.

Confidence has to be on high and there are plenty of players from the 2006 team that want some revenge from Ghana knocking them out last time.

Those are two BLOCKBUSTER first round matchups at the bottom of the group. Those four teams are going to beat the *&%* out of each other to try and advance to the semifinals.

Once again, not saying Uruguay, Ghana, and South Korea are pushovers by any stretch of the imagination but still, Much better than what could have happened.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Continuing the Brit papers theme of spelling things with team names :D

Germany
Argentina
Mexico
England

Ghana
Uruguay
Yanks
South Korea

Could also be MEGA I spose.

The way I read the schedules on SI, ESPN, and FIFA, the path to the finals is:

Uruguay
South Korea

USA
Ghana

Netherlands (assuming they win Group E)
Paraguay (assuming Italy/Paraguay finish 1/2 in Group F)

Brazil (assuming they win Group G)
Chile/Switzerland (assuming Spain wins Group H)

Looks like a good shot in the first two matches, but then comes the possibility of Brazil or the Netherlands

You are right there is a cross over somewhere in there.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

One quick note I'd like to make before I head out ... Ian Darke absolutely nailed the commentary on the last two matches, IMHO.

I thought Tyler was doing all the USA matches, but it's Darke who has truly shone.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Wow. And to think that American interest in soccer was about 3 minutes from being "Screwed by retarded 3rd world officials twice in a row? This stupid **** is fixed. My kids are playing real football next year. Even the girls."

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I haven't read through the thread from this morning yet, but I just want to congratulate everyone on the awesome win!

My personal goal for this team was to get through the group stage somehow and then go on a Confederation's Cup like run. This is going to be fun!!!

For some reason I was confident today right up to the end that we would win. I admit that I pretty much gave up at the forty minute mark against Slovenia, but I was wrong to do so.

USA!! USA!! USA!! USA!!

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I wonder if the English will try to use "The Joke" to get an advantage of the Germans? ;)

While The Germans will counter with their own version of "The Joke" and it goes something like this.

Hitler: My dog has no nose. How does it smell?
Crowd: How?
Hitler: Awful!!!
