Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Lost in the celebration was something that I found utterly hilarious, that being him saying hello to his ex-wife and blowing her a kiss. I'm guess that might have been less than sincere.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I'm talking about the other incident where Roo squared for Defoe to tap in.

Oh, I think if anything Rooney was a fraction offside, but thought he was onside. I have to watch the replay again, in real time my biased eyes thought it was onside.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

Slovenia has no gripes with anyone or anything. They were clearly the 3rd/4th best side in the group.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

For my money, the US played in some of the more entertaining group games. They appear to have the keeper and attacking players. Still worried about the defense.

Re: World Soccer XV: Diver Down

I'd like to see either Ghana or Serbia in the next round for the US. I don't like the prospects of playing Germany, regardless of their age/experience.

They sure aren't boring. Of course they played the better part of all their games from situations in which they were desperate to score; hard to tell how they will look when they come out with a clean slate.

Today's performance really impressed me. If they don't draw a significantly more experienced opponent (Germany) they might even be a slight favorite in a knockout game -- what a concept.

Whom did they knock out in the Round of 16 in Japan? Was that the Columbia game?

Edit: Mexico.

Mexico?

Columbia game was in the US.

Although I don't think Germany is as strong as people think they are after that 4-0 result against Australia, I'd still rather play Ghana, Serbia, or the Socceroos.

I'd especially like Ghana to dish a little payback after 2006.

FYI: Colombia has only ever made 3 world cup (62, 90, 94) and they went out in the group stage in 94 losing their first 2 games to Romania and USA (on own goal) and beating Switzerland.

Although they are playing their 3rd game later today, i think it should be noted: through 2 games, Ghana has yet to score by any means other than a penalty kick awarded as a result of a handball. If, by some chance, USA does draw against Ghana... they just have to keep their hands off the ball in the area ;)

I want to play the Aussis. Why wouldnt you want to play Australia? That is a team the US beat 4-0 in a pre world cup match, and maybe one of the weaker squads in the World Cup. They do have a chance to advance today with some help.
