Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson will apparently be playing for the Kansas City MLS team on March 22.
(Edit: They actually don't have a game, so maybe he means training with the team...)

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Due to the NFL lockout, I’m excited to be able to follow my childhood dream of playing for a Major League Soccer team.

Considering he was 18 when MLS began...

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

According to Sporting KC, he begins a 4-day trial March 22.

A friend of mine suggested, and I wish I could take credit for this, that he should change his name to "Chad Pele".

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

3/4 of the English clubs make it to the last 8 of the CL. Barring one horrid call at the Camp Nou it could have easily been 4.

I expect two of the English clubs to play each other, and the third to face Barca. Can't see UEFA wanting an English club to play in the final at Wembley.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

City reminds me of the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. They try to buy championships only to fail comically.

They're buying championships in the same sense that every club in the history of the world, ever, has bought championships.

Unless you're going to regale me with stories of Wayne Rooney playing for the Red Devils out of the goodness of his heart, refusing to take a salary, etc.

To quote the famous words: "There's no such thing as bad publicity."

BTW, how PO'd is Columbus? Thought they had the inside track? :D

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

So Clattenburg misses a call (and he did) that helped United and he nearly gets fired. Atkinson has a terrible game and a history for blowing calls against United and he gets defended by the FA. Seems like the double standard is here. I'd be furious too if the game was so badly officiated and fire off a bunch of angry comments. Luis should've been sent off and there is no doubt about it.

Should he get a ban? Maybe, but 5 games is excessive. I would be upset if Daglish, Mancini or Wenger got 5 after the ref basically handed Chelski the game. This game and suspension may tilt the title race and a referee should have ZERO say in the title.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

It's not technically a 5 game ban for this incident though. It's such a long ban because of suspended sentences that got triggered. As you know, Ferguson has been warned before.

Besides, it's a pretty toothless punishment however long the ban is in my mind. I mean, Ferguson can still pick the team and give the team talk, so the only real difference is that someone else will now have to be in charge of moaning at the officials from the touchline.

As compared to stuff that regularly tilts the title race the Red Devils' way. I'm surprised by the 5 game suspension mainly because Ferguson has gotten away with all sorts of stuff for as long as I can remember, and rarely has the FA had the guts to take any action toward him. Color me surprised to put it mildly that they've stepped to the plate for once.

It's all in what you say. Sir Alex said the magic words, suggesting that there was a problem with the referee's integrity. The FA really has no choice but to come down very harshly on such statements. If he had merely griped about a poor performance, with suggesting a bias, I suspect he would not be facing a big ban.

Yeah there's a huge conspiracy against the English clubs, that's why ManU and Chelsea got two of the three best matchups in the round of 16.

Edit to add: As measured by current UEFA club coefficients.
