Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

But Houston, Salt Lake and Kansas City... what excuse do they have?

I think Houston comes by the Dynamo name honestly. I think it's meant to be an American-modern-style singular name harkening to the big energy sector in the area rather than something based on the Kyiv club.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Their fans do a little dance, make a little love and get down all night.

I'd almost say "KC Sunshine Band" is less obnoxious than "Sporting KC"...

aren't names like that used for clubs which participate in more than one sport? I expect a regional rugby or softball team under this umbrella.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

The second half of the North London Derby has proven thus far to be much more enjoyable than the first half.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

As a way of celebrating, please enjoy Rafa van der Vaart's wife.

Figuring 30 seconds for each goal, and 30 seconds for each sub, that works out to 4:30. And when you have half minutes of stoppage time, you're supposed to round up, so 5 was the right decision I think.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Portsmouth loses to Barnsley. Rough little stretch for Pompey here. Still mid table, only a few points off the Playoff Spots...

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

The US women win in stoppage time! Alex Morgan scores at the death to give the US a win and a key Away goal.

Yo, ref...blow the damm whistle already...

Edit: And it's finally over.

The Italian men are dirty, cheating scum...I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the Italian women are as well.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

The Notre Dame women won at North Carolina tonight 4 - 1. It's the most goals UNC has given up in a game (and the biggest margin of defeat) since 1980, and the first time they've lost by more than a goal since 1985 (not sure if that's in any game, or just in the NCAA tournament, but amazing either way).

Big deal, Barcelona scored 8 at Almeria today. :p

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Difference is, I doubt it's been 1980 since Almería gave up 8 goals. :p

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Praying Blackburn can hold on for 30 more minutes vs Villa. This would be a huge win in their effort to remain in range of the top 10 this season.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAALL! Pedersen nets his 2nd (45, 65) to give Blackburn a bit more breathing room. 2-0 Rovers.

Edit: Pedersen subbed off only 6 minutes later, so no hat trick today.

Ridiculous amount of extra time in this game (5 min), although I guess Givet was injured so maybe that's part of it.

Blackburn are winners 2-0 over Villa. That moves them to a -1 GD and 18 pts. Putting them in 11th place. If Fulham wins they could push them to 12th.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Yes, that was a wonderful win this morning. Pipe down, Sparky.

MLS Final tonight, Don Garber set to announce changes to the playoff structure at halftime.

Steve Goff just tweeted that MLS is "looking into" switching to an international calendar. Sure they are.

Edit: Garber announced the changes to the media, but they're being asked to keep it secret until the official halftime announcement. However, the buzz seems to be that the changes are pretty significant.

So who decided Toronto in mid November was a good location for an outdoor soccer final?
