Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Lack of government support is a ridiculous excuse, for a few reasons. First of all, we aren't South Africa, it's not like we need massive infrastructures updates and the like. Secondly, if government cutbacks are a dealbreaker for FIFA, they sure as heck can't give it to a European country then.

I have so missed the vuvuzuela.

Not to go all Mountie:Thierry Henry on everyone, but....

Robbie Findley again? The bleep has he done to deserve another shot?

I became a cliche.... cool. :D And bogus and sad. :(

I am happy Ream is getting a look. Ream! Ream! Ream! needs to be the title of the next World Soccer thread.

He has looked awful. I can't wait to see Bunbury and Agudelo play together later. Agudelo is a great talent for his age.

Credit to Bob for getting a bunch of youth involved in the second half though.

2-0 France now. England looks like pure crap.

At least Fabio looks stylish though.

No, sends me to www.kcwizards.com (but the website does have the SKC design implemented).

Huh. That's weird. Must be an issue with my cookies or something.

Edit: Yup, cleared out my cache and now I get to where it's supposed to go. Have to say, the logo/color scheme is growing on me.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

So the Sporting Kansas City thing is actually happening.

Is it officially the most retarded name for a team in MLS? It has some pretty stiff competition. It's hard to pick out the biggest poseur name in the whole bunch:

DC United
FC Dallas
Seattle Sounders FC
Houston Dynamo
Sporting Kansas City
Real Salt Lake
Chivas USA
Red Bull New York

My vote might still go for Real Salt Lake, but Sporting Kansas City is getting pretty close. I think the whole "FC" thing is totally posing, but at least it makes some sense. Only the most pretentious of American soccer fans actually uses the word "Football" (or worse yet, "Futbol"... should I start being a d-bag and refer to it as "Fußball"?), but at least you can fall back on the "it's what everyone else calls it" card. RBNY is totally stupid, but at least it has a legitimate excuse (corporate ownership). Same goes for Chivas USA. DC United makes sense in the context of being in our nation's capital. But Houston, Salt Lake and Kansas City... what excuse do they have?

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Well, this is Houston's excuse. From Wiki:
The choice of Houston 1836, however, soon became a political issue. While their stated intent was to link to the founding year of the city, the team name was changed to Houston Dynamo after the Houston 1836 name raised a furor among some locals of Mexican descent, a major target audience, who related 1836 with the war for Texas independence. Sylvia Garcia, Harris County's first Hispanic commissioner in more than a century, rallied for a boycott of the team name.
