World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Jmh... really??? You gonna go there with this against Arsenal? That is what you are insinuating... right? That Arsenal poached Fabregas yrs and yrs ago out of the Barca system?? Please. Barca are THE biggest of poachers! Arsenal's system is not bad at all and, actually, they at least go after young and largely unproven talent and bring them in and develop them themselves.

And, there are plenty of Arsenal grown kids to come up through their own system.... Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Henri Lansbury, Jay Simpson.. are just some of the kids that are coming thru the Arsenal system and doing well for Arsenal (as well as teams they are loaned to (Simpson is at Hull City... Lansbury is at Norwich City).

Arsenal RARELY goes after proven commodities in the transfer market. Feel free to go after bigger fish like Chelski, Barca, Real Madrid, Man Utd (although they will go after youngsters, too), Liverpool... but, please, Arsenal is the least of the offenders (if this is even a proper slam).

As a City fan, agreeing with an Arsenal supporter is a rarity....but you are SPOT ON SIR!!! Poaching youngsters is how most of the top teams have done it.

Everyone talks about how these great teams never bought titles and how they brought up homegrown talent....its bollocks! Many of these players were poached out of other systems.

Man City I'm sure has done it...EVERYONE HAS!!!

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Oh without a doubt... and likely will. My point only was that it was a remarkable win for a team on their backheels most all night against a technically superior side as Barca. I am thrilled that Arsenal found some class goals when they really were being bossed all over the pitch for much of the game. They clearly are maturing and learning to win games they likely should not. It is rare that Arsenal don't win the possession game and are "outpassed" as they were by Barca. Kudos for the win and I will be really interested to see what happens at the Nou Camp if Arsenal scores the first goal of the game there.

It is imparitive that Arsenal score first in that match. An away goal would be massive!!!

I find it simply amazing the amount of supporters who have the "Holier than thou" atitude when it comes to their teams. I understand it is part of being a supporter, but there comes a time when people have to take off the tinted glasses.

I think City have likely done some unethical things, but that is no different some that lot just outside Manchester. As far as unethical goes, I think Ferguson wrote the book on it.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

People I never want to see at another Fulham match:

1. pardonme
2. Stuart Attwell

Unfortunately, the one I'm serious about is a lot more likely to be at one again soon. Seriously, does that guy even KNOW you're not allowed to pull the other team's shirts? What a joke he is.

I totally agree. I am more than happy to rip Arsenal whenever they deserve it. Hell, I went off on them a few pages back when Wenger decided to sit on his thumb rather than bring in a quality central midfielder and/or definitive #1 goalkeeper and/or quality holding midfielder. No. He went dirtas s cheap once again and did nothing and I totally called him ... and Arsenal... out on it. I still think that was patently the wrong decision when you are just a few pts out of the top spot and have won 0 pieces of silverware since 05.

And I do agree that more ppl should obviously support their teams but also realize their team is not some band of angels 100% of the time, either. Right on...

I think if Arsenal gets two goals at the Nou Camp (not impossible), they will go through.... but that is a giant sized "IF".

Yeah, complaining about your manager not spending enough money is EXACTLY the same as admitting actual instances of less-than-perfect conduct.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

I wonder if the FA will put their best fixers.... ERRR.. refs in the Arsenal/Orient replay. :D

Just saying, that matchup sells and I do realize that they would do the same for United... or Chelski... or Al-Citeh... or the Pool... or Spurs. :D

Howard Webb, Please report to the Emirates'.....Howard Webb to the Emirates' ....you are needed to ensure that Salford United play Leyton Orient....Please give soft penalties Orient and allow them to chop the bejesus out of Nasri and Cesc.

Van Persie can get chopped all match as far as I am concerned though....can't stand the w***er.:D

Jmh.... please, then, point out the "less than perfect" conduct you are accusing Arsenal and, specifically, Arsene Wenger of. Enlighten me.

And, then, if you would be so kind, feel free to point out the shining beacon of a manager that is above such an accusation you are bringing against Wenger. (Gotta admit... this is gonna be humorous.)

Actually, Arsenal.... in their full greediest mode... dearly wanted that replay. That is an extra 3m pounds in the kitty once they play the replay at Emirates. Now, they will have to split some with Orient...but, still, once all the extras (concessions, food, boxes, gate, etc) are counted, they will be north of 2m for sure.

Arsenal played their "C" team vs Orient in the first game.... and, if they sense even the slightest pressure in the replay, will put on Wilshere, Fabregas, Nasri, RVP, et al.... whatever it takes to get through. They obviously won't need the refs to be on their side, but I think the powers that be at Ashburton Grove are more than a little delighted to get the extra payday in the coffers. After all, that is what it is all about at Arsenal.... horde all the money you can.

I don't have anything in particular in mind, but I maintain that what you said is ridiculous. Complaining that your manager doesn't spend enough money is hardly an example of "realize their team is not some band of angels 100% of the time". How about calling Wenger out for the whining he did about Stoke's long throws, which are certainly as well within the laws of the game as signing players away from other teams' academies.

So Wenger can't complain about long throws, which are well within the laws of the game, but you can complain about them signing players from other players academies? Last time I checked, that was within the laws of the game as well. What's the difference?

If anybody is facing a slow work day, ESPN3 has the US Under 17 team taking on El Salvador for a World Cup berth at 3.
