World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Started to pay off in first game. Big result for the Villans.

No doubt... first goal for Villa on his first touch. As I told my buddy who is a huge Villa fan.... this transfer only works if Villa stays up. That alone would warrant the 24m pounds. If they don't survive, everyone--- Young, Agbonlahor, Bent, Carew.... -- will be sold off and this club will be in severe trouble.

This United fan wants to thank Darren Bent for his winner over Al-Citeh. The Devils had an easy time with the Brummies beating them 5-0. Say what you will about them, but Ryan Giggs continues to play well despite his age with a goal.

Mountie... us Arsenal fans were pretty happy with the result, too. ;)

Also, it kind of flew below the radar a bit (a lot) but the US played Chile in a friendly tonight.

Check out the Spanish call of the US goal, featuring a Black Eyed Peas impression:http://www.twitvid.com/B1XDY
I think the fact that Jeff Larentowicz played 90 minutes says everything that needs to be said about how little emphasis was put on that friendly.

By the way, Fulham have done their part to get rid of those dirty Stoke ****s, and I would appreciate it if everyone else would do the same.

The US team was definitely the D squad. McCarty was fantastic. Ream was solid. Agudelo and Bunbury are really fun to watch on the field together. Diskerrud and Bedoya played well. Other than that, it was a boring game. The game versus Egypt in Cairo should be a lot more interesting to watch as pretty much all of the Euro based national team players will join the team. Going off of how Bradley was tactically last night, you'll probably see something like this:

Altidore-Buddle/Agudelo
Donovan-Bradley-Holden-Dempsey
Bocanegra-Onyewu-Spector/Goodson-Lichaj/Cherundolo

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Are you sure the Euro guys will be available for that one? I don't think Feb. 9 is a FIFA international date.

It is.

Bradley has said he's going to expect most of the Euro based players on the squad. Yet looking at my last post, I don't think Landon will make the trip over because I doubt he'll be in game shape with it being the offseason.

Huh, thanks for that. Thought they didn't have a FIFA date until March. I'm a lot more excited for that game now. I didn't get to see any of it, but Jermaine Jones was pretty good in his first game for Blackburn this morning by most accounts.

I'm wondering if players like him will be making the trip, or if Bradley will let them stay with their teams so they can attempt to cement their places on the roster.

Carew is off to Stoke on loan. That helps..I also suspect that they figure Young won't be back if he has another decent year. I think they have some mismatched parts so if they figure out what kind of team they want to be it may be that Gabby could go as well. Albrighton has been a pleasant surprise and imo generates more service than AYoung did out there. They've been getting Clark and Lichaj time on the back line so Dunne, Collins, LYoung and Cuellar won't all be back is my guess.

In the end they are still a medium budget club and have to balance Bent and Makoun with some cuts as well. Ireland has done nothing and probably could be had...he really hasn't had any time, due to injury, if he finishes the year strong there could be a place I guess but I've never seen him fitting in. I'd take Petrov over him any day.

I read yesterday they may be looking at Crouch too...not sure I get that one either.

Andy Gray has been sacked for comments he made on Saturday on a mic he thought was off about how women can't understand the offside rule.

The context, for those who missed it, was that there was a female linesman ("lineswoman"?) working the Liverpool match.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Someone at FSC made a typo. The scoreline reads Blackpool 2 - 0 Man United.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

There were no fewer than three players offside on that play.

So of course it counts.

Edit: 2 goals in 2 minutes. 2-2 now.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

What a difference a week makes, Villa seems to have snapped to attention; if they can get 5-7 points in next 4 games they'll be a little more comfortable out of relegation.
