Ryan Babel is in trouble for tweeting this picture after the match:

Have you ever gone into the cubicle at work and found that someone before you has left an almighty stench? You need to go, and in time your nose deadens the stench, but when you leave the cubicle someone – perhaps a senior director – is waiting to go in, and when they go in they smell it too and assume it was you. In their eyes you will always be the person who made the almighty stench. You weren’t – it was like that before you got there – but this is not how your successor will view things.

FA Cup 4th Round Draw

Torquay v Crawley Town or Derby

Watford v Brighton

Bolton v Wigan

Arsenal or Leeds v Huddersfield

Fulham v Spurs

Everton v Chelsea

Southampton v Manchester Utd

Swansea v Leyton Orient

Burnley v Burton

Birmingham v Coventry

Doncaster or Wolves v Stoke or Cardiff

Notts County v Leicester or Manchester City

Stevenage v Reading

Aston Villa v Blackburn

West Ham v Nottingham Forest

Sheffield Wed v Wycombe or Hereford

Chelski-Everton looks tasty and so does Fulham vs. Spurs. I do see a potential for a couple of scalps.

Goddammit, that draw sucks.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

I think Villa/Blackburn is a revenge match from last FA Cup. Well for Blackburn anyways.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

Philly have a shirt sponsor now.

Nice "get" in terms of a big name company. Doesn't really go well with the shirt though does it?

No. Interesting that the big Mexican bakery would want Philly, when there are so many other cities in the USA with larger Mexican populations.

I wasn't aware of this until today either, but Bimbo's USA division is actually based in Pennsylvania. I believe the Union made finding a local company a big part of their search.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

ESPNW-"The Online Destination for Female Sports Fans and Athletes" asks the really big question about the sponsor though:
Is the Union's new sponsorship sexist? I think I might have pulled a muscle from rolling my eyes so hard.

It isn't so much ESPN pushing an agenda as asking fans what they think - and apparently for good reason:

Within hours of the announcement, fans posted angry comments on the Philadelphia Union's Facebook page and photo albums. They do not like the jerseys, they do not like the name "BIMBO," and, most notably, many of the team's female fans who commented said they feel the team is alienating them with this name choice. At least one man said he wouldn't bring his girls' soccer team to a game now that the jerseys have "BIMBO" on them.

When I first heard about this via Twitter, I thought it was an unfortunate name but didn't think it would be taken so seriously. What do you think? Is this just a whole lot of overreaction over nothing, or did the Union alienate its female fan base with the Bimbo sponsorship deal?

The comments section (usually reserved for the lowest common denominator) had a reasonable response:

Most people are sophisticated enough to differentiate between a derogatory English term and a foreign brand name. Women who are true soccer fans are already aware of Bimbo's sponsorship of other clubs. Bimbo is about to launch a major marketing campaign in the US, and I think people will eventually get used to the new logo.

That's fine, that doesn't preclude the fans from being idiots though does it?

I mean, not taking your soccer team to the game because of this? Really?

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

I think its stupid, but that's rooted more out of my extreme disinterest in anything related to Mexican soccer than anything else.

Re: World Soccer XIX- Full of Pomp-ey and Circumstance

I'm offended by their being offended...the whole thing is offensive, which futher offends me. My noticable offense has offended the people around me and their offense to my offense offends me further. The amount of offense I've endured from this offensive event has reached offensive proportions.

That being said, I'll still be in my seats for opening day for the Union, with my wife and daughters.

Will you explain to them beforehand that Bimbo is a company and not a statement about the character of their female fans?

If the Union have this much offense they'll break all kinds of league scoring records.

Have you seen some of those south philly girls????? although, the south philly girls don't attend many soccer games (mostly phillies games).

The shirt was the topic of conversation when I got home that night...they don't like the way the shirt looks but weren't too worried about the name. It will blend in and not even be realized in a few months.

edit: early line on next sponsor...Hooker Headers
