If I'm not mistaken, he got his U.S. FIFA badge in the last year or so.

(I know he's not originally American... am I completely out to lunch in thinking that he might have had a badge from his original association when he started reffing here?)
No Prus had been a FIFA referee for a number years in the US. But you wouldn't be far off considering how many FIFA referees from other countries have moved here and had to give up their badge. Heck, Southern California probably has more FIFA refs than some countries.

The choices are:
1) the best players get extra benefits from the officials
2) everybody cheats, prominent players are most obvious
3) fan envy/hatred of opposing stars

Probably a balance of all three.

Yeah, I guess I was asking that semi-rhetorically.

I'd recommend everyone read this: Link

Fantastic article by Joe Posnanski. Easily one of my favorite writers.

I think there were actually 2 hand balls on Fabiano and one on an Ivory Coast guy on that play.

And what was up with the ref touching his arm and laughing with Fabiano afterwards?

That . . . well, that didn't look right. :p

My guess would be "no."

Bookmaker William Hill offering 100/1 odds that France will forfeit its match against South Africa next week.

I saw that too. Not exactly a good moment to have been caught on camera like that.. Yikes.

Jeebus. He just broke his leg. That sound was sickening.

We're getting pummeled by a thunderstorm and just lost the satellite. Ivory Coast better not come back and make this interesting.

I really do not think that is likely.

I thought they were beefing up security at the world cup...

All these snipers perched throughout the stadiums...

And now it's a LITTLE more interesting... Not much, but a little.

Goal for Didier Dive-ba. Still out of reach though.

BTW... Maybe the Ivory Coast shouldn't have stolen Celtics unis because they are playing the way the Hoops did against Gers all year. :D

Oh this is truly pathetic...

PATHETIC.

And now Kaka is out with a pair of reds.

I don't know who that IC player was, but he should be given an oscar.

Kaka got a red???

He put an elbow into the gut of some d-bag IC player who decided to make a run at Italy for best acting.

Can FIFA assess cards after a match? If not, they should be. That was ridiculous and it might eliminate all this diving foolishness at least a bit.

Geez Martin, stop beating around the bush and tell us what you really think of De Rossi. :D

2nd yellow. The referee slowly let control of the match slip away from him, and now he has that situation to deal with.

Unfortunately no they can't...

This diving is getting old. And truly shameful.

I figured the play was over and turned my attention back to my PC and next thing I know Kaka is going off...wow.

The ironic thing is, Cote d'Ivoire need Brazil to beat Portugal if they themselves want to advance, and now they've ensured that Brazil will be missing an essential player.
