Good thing Denmark and Morten Olsen avoided this proposed lineup. :D

Is Cameroon officially the first team eliminated?

Not a great showing by either of Cameroon's Spurs defenders. I feel for Assou-Ekotto and Bassong.

I was thinking a goalie kick to the face.... cleats first. :)

FIFA made too look like a joke for the second time in the same World Cup (first time involves "No, let's not ban the vuvuzelas despite the fans, players, coaches, and media despising it").

Actually, on the vuvuzela antics.... I wonder if there would be a way to get those air horns into the arena. Get all the American fans and both teams' players ear plugs and simply have the fans blast away at those vuvuzela wielding morons?

Or better yet: Ban the World Cup from being held in any location where the vuvuzelas are in abundance. So... sorry Africa... you're out.

Hope you enjoy the vuvuzelas. The rest of the world will enjoy Football

What if someone found getting drunk offensive and wanted to ban tailgating? Or if they found "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" offensive for some reason? It's a tradition. I honestly don't think we have any right to go in and tell someone they can't celebrate the way they normally do.

How is something a tradition when its only 9 years old?

So what's your threshold for it to be an official TBA tradition?

The correct question is what's yours, since you're the one claiming its a tradition.

The correct answer for why SA should be able to use the instruments is because its their country and they should be able to do what they want. Regardless of whether it ruins the atmosphere or the audio or the hearing of the attendees and players.

Two years with the intention for it to continue :p

I thought every game was being carried live and streamed on ESPN3, but this one seems to be unavailable. Unfortunate since this seems to be a pretty good match.

Yeah, games on ABC don't make it to ESPN3 until the next day unfortunately. Makes zero sense, cause I really don't think people would choose to watch online over ABC, but it's tWWL.

The issue has never been that they have them. It's that the sheet they hand out to explain when to blow on the stupid things looks like this.

It stops being culture and turns into noise when it's just a constant buzz.

The fact that they blow on them constantly probably explains why a handful of white folks were able to sneak up on them and rule them with an iron fist for 80 years. It was like free silencers on the guns.

Hello everyone! This World Cup is really starting to heat up. It should be exciting from here on out.

My thoughts on our USA and the referee from Mali. First, it kind of bugs me how Mike Tiricco keeps referring to him as the referee from Mali, like being from Africa automatically makes him a bad referee. I've seen far worse from European referees.

Now, I hate to say this, but I think overall we were lucky to get this referee. He obviously blew the Edu goal, but he gave us a much greater gift by not sending off Dempsey in the first ten seconds of the match. I have no doubt 90% of the referees at the World Cup would have shown him red for that elbow. I'll take a tie with Slovenia over not seeing Dempsey until the quarter-finals. Not that we'd ever make it that far without him.

So, that's the bright side. Sorry I didn't read all the way back. If one of you already made that point, well, I agree with you. :D

After the England match, I posted that I thought we would struggle against Slovenia and I wish I had been wrong. I think Algeria is a lot better than people are giving them credit for and we will struggle with their pace. I'm glad we drew them last. We know we have to beat them and I think we will. Had we met them in the first game, I think we might have gone home with three points and I would have thought that **** African from Mali was the worst referee ever since Jorge Larrionda.

USA!! USA!!

I said it, but it's nice to see someone agree with me! Even though jim and Craig are conveniently not posting much on the elbow subject.

oh give me a break. I just watched it. You guys are way overblowing this. as the announcers said, there wasn't any malice.

They are lucky he didn't get cautioned. There is no way you give a red for that.

An elbow to the face, malice or not, when you extend is a red card 90% of the time.

He extended.

Doesn't meet the standards for a red card in my opinion.

You'd think the SAME thing if it was one of your precious englishmen...

Yep. No one else has 2 losses.

Well, Nigeria does. But they still have a (rather slim) scenario where they advance.

Yeah you see, I apply the rules to everyone. Regardless of what that fatty who will remain nameless thinks.

Even though I am a biased bastage. :)
