Re: World Soccer XIV: Where JV keepers can play in the World Cup - Group Stages continued

Why would he feel good that Dempsey broke the guy's ankle?

He was insinuating that the guy was faking it, don't be dense. He was also insulting the guy's threshold for pain saying he was time wasting.

Oh and for every complaint about the ref, if you look objectively at the calls during the game, look at Dempsey's INTENTIONAL elbow on the very first play of the game.

For a lot of refs it's a red. It's a red all the way. You watch the replay and he goes up and he intentionally extends the elbow into the guy's face. He doesn't even get booked. It helped that it was on the first play of the game, but still. Now even book him once, then the yellow he got toward the end= a red too, and he'd miss the next game.

Sure the ref screwed the USA at the end, but I'm not feeling the USA's chances to beat Slovenia if they play the entire game with 10 men either.

Look at it objectively, you still control your destiny and you still have Dempsey. It could have been worse. :)

Well of course he was insinuating the guy was faking it. That's what soccer players do. They get touched and they act like they've been shot, beaten, stampeded, kicked in the junk, blown up, sent into outer space, shot again, contracted the ebola virus, forced to move a grand piano by themselves, beaten again, crucified, suffocated, subjected to water torture, skinned alive and shot for a third time.

You could easily give him a yellow and the PK.

If you want to never work an international game again, sure.

If he handled it on the line, he didn't just deny an OGSO, he denied a G. That's penalty+red.

For my money, he absolutely did handle it on the line. His arms were spread wide to make himself bigger with a shot likely to be on the way.

I took his post as genuine concern for the player's well-being. I see the agony these guys go through when they get *cough* hit (Dirty sums it up nicely) so of course he was worried about a serious hit like that.

It hit him at the very top of his arm where his shoulder meets his body. If he for example had his arms behind his back, it would have still hit him in the arm. At that point, what was he supposed to do? You're being unfair, he has a right to be there, and where it hit him its not like the arm was away from the body like Frings in 02.

You cannot be that dense. Can you?:D

Dempsey broke the guy's ankle. He's out for the rest of the tournament.

Now don't you feel good about yourself.

Dempsey broke the guy's ankle? I can see saying that on a tackle but wasn't that collision a freak play with no intent?

He went in recklessly.

A straight red on the Dempsey foul would've been a harsh decision, but one thats made on occassion. It was reckless, but I don't think it was done with any intent. Part of the reason I would've opted for yellow over red is the fact that it was so early in the game. I'd prefer to have referees avoid interjecting themselves into matches if at all possible. Its why I probably wouldn't have been all that ****ed off if the Edu put the ball over the bar and no foul was called on the play.

Dempsey should've recklessly tackled the ref instead.

but he did step on the ball and take a nasty fall himself which collected the other guy...I'm not saying Dempsey is Shirley Temple out there but still think the broken ankle was an unfortunate accident on a freak play

It was incredibly reckless. He was an American, you see, so that means it had to be a reckless challenge. Now, if he was an Englishman the Slovenian would be expected to write a thank-you letter to him thanking him for the honor of having his ankle broken by such a player. He would also be yellow carded for having the nerve to get his ankle in the way in the first place!

A new excuse meme making the rounds is that Jozy wasn't fouled, so the free kick should never have been given. Untrue. Jozy certainly did an acting job to ensure something was called, but he's clearly held up by the defender's arm as he tries to run by. I think this is what Europeans/South Americans call being "soccer savy" oh excuse me, "futbol savy"

Any chance New Zealand can steal a tie against Italy tomorrow?

Ideal results for group F

New Zealand tie Italy
Slovakia over Paraguay
Italy tie Slovakia
Paraguay over New Zealand

That would send Italy home early and make everyone else happy. :D

My apologies that one of the times a European player acts like he was crippled for the rest of his life he actually was hurt.

Wait...now you're backing the ref? Seriously, are you really this dense or did you just stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Also, you're shocked that a guy would presume a soccer player took a dive? Really? 99% of the time, he would've been right.

Dempsey should've recklessly tackled the ref instead.

I was thinking a goalie kick to the face.... cleats first. :)

FIFA made too look like a joke for the second time in the same World Cup (first time involves "No, let's not ban the vuvuzelas despite the fans, players, coaches, and media despising it").

Actually, on the vuvuzela antics.... I wonder if there would be a way to get those air horns into the arena. Get all the American fans and both teams' players ear plugs and simply have the fans blast away at those vuvuzela wielding morons?

Or better yet: Ban the World Cup from being held in any location where the vuvuzelas are in abundance. So... sorry Africa... you're out.

Hope you enjoy the vuvuzelas. The rest of the world will enjoy Football
