Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Five goalkeepers on Spain's preliminary roster caught my eye; open auditions to back up Saint Iker?

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I like to watch the Dutch all the time, but Ryan Babel is a really unlikable player for me. Bleh.

What's unlikable about him besides the fact that he peaked as a 17 year old and has never been the same?

That he refuses to use his pace and has the football IQ of a football?

So you're saying he's the Dutch Wayne Routledge?

Babel seems to coast through his career. Doesn't put any effort.

I know he wasn't going to be selected, but I miss the man with the greatest footballing name ever... Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Rather cryptic, but here's Fabio's thoughts on Zamora
http://twitter.com/oliverkaytimes/status/13792903858
It's not cryptic. Zamora is playing through an achilles injury and lingering effects from the shoulder injury he had earlier in the year, so he's taking injections to help him deal with the pain, but he's not 100% healthy and therefore not 100% effective. He's almost certainly going to go for surgery soon after tomorrow's match now that he's sure he's not going to be playing this summer. It's disappointing, as a fan of his, but understandable.

Personally, I'd take Paul Konchesky over Baines at this point, though. He's been in great form since he got back healthy a month or two ago.

GK – Howard; Brad Guzan; Marcus Hahnemann
DEF – Onyewu; Bocanegra; Bornstein; Cherundulo; Demerit; Goodson; Marshall; Pearce; Spector
MID – Landon; Bedoya; Beasley; Bradley; Clark; Deuce; Edu; Feilhaber; Holden; Kljestan; Rogers; Torres
ST – Altidore; Buddle; Ching; Findley; Gomez; Johnson

So, the big news is no Davies. Robbie Rogers inclusion is also surprising. Conor Casey also omitted.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

It's a real shame about Davies; his recovery went faster than anyone had a right to expect, but at the end of the day, there's only so much the body is capable of. He'll be around for 2014, presumably.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

So I take it Freddy Adu is no long the US soccer savior by his omission? or is he hurt?
