World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

True, and the only Dome stadiums in the area is just the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Could stretch it and count the Superdome in New Orleans as well, but who knows if they have anybody interested in starting a MLS team there. And I just don't think it would really be that viable to either Birmingham or somewhere in Florida to build an indoor stadium thats probably not sitting more than 30,000. Even if they could partner it with a college team, say like UAB for Birmingham, it would still be a stretch.

Although, I could see an use for say a 20,000 seat Indoor Stadium in Alabama, but that's another thread all together. ;)

I really don't think they would want to have teams playing big domed football stadiums.

Interestingly, the Atlanta Beat of WPS opened the first women's pro soccer stadium yesterday, in partnership with a local university. Seats around 9,000 know, speculation that they left room to tack on 10,000 seats or so if Atlanta can land an MLS team.

True, but have you ever been down in Alabama in July?? YUCK!!! It melts your brains!! They would only be able to play nite games there, even on the weekends.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Chelsea not making this interesting, handling their business with ease. Wigan is a man down, also (perhaps a bit harshly, I thought a yellow would have been more appropriate).

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Congratulatons to Chelsea. Fun scenes at Stamford Bridge. Do we have any Chelsea fans here?

Also, is Essien expected to be back in time for SA? He is a personal favorite.

Thanks for not showing up Wigan. I hope you get relegated next year. Oh wait, you probably will.

Wigan showed up, the referees on the other hand, did not. Embarrassing how awful they were.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I would love to see Wigan go down, terrible stadium, non existent fans, just a dull team. Still, they seem to have some serious staying power unfortunately.

As at least 1/3 of the promoted teams are closer to threats to make it to Europe than be relegated back down, you may get your wish next year.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I saw this headline "Barcelona stops Olympiakos for Euroleague title" and was confused.

Then realized its basketball, not soccer. :D

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Like I said, don't expect much out of Fulham today. Ah well, at least Barcelona won. (By the skin of their teeth, but still.)

By the way, the hard-on Ray Hudson has for Barcelona is embarrassing.

I think Roman had something to do with it. :D I always thought he was a thug.

Ray Hudson needs to CHILL. We know you love Messi, but don't make a Messi in your pants.

Wigan are one of my early faves to go down next year.

You think that highly of Newcastle?

Also, Ray Hudson should go back to coaching DC United.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Good to see Leeds back in The Championship. They could go back to the The Prem if they make the right moves. Norwich will join them.

Cardiff got a huge away goal over Leicster and Forrest took a stunning 2-1 loss to Blackpool in the Championship playoffs.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

St. Pauli FC got promoted in Germany. Supposed to be a fun club to support, with a whole cult following.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Does a St. Pauli girl come with you if you do support them? :D

Haha, I think that comment has disqualified you from supporting them. They're very pro women (Wikipedia mentions them banning Maxim ads from the stadium), and I don't think they'd appreciate the objectification of women the St. Pauli girl represents.:D

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Seems like a really cool club.

Kind of surprised to see that there's a recent history of support between St. Pauli and Celtic.

Regardless of politics, it seems a little odd (from the description on their wikipedia page) that St. Pauli supporters would befriend supporters from a club known for sectarian violence.

I like seeing Leeds in the right direction. Shame that another once-great club (Wednesday) is taking their place.

One interesting thing to watch next year will be the fact that Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Wolves AND West Brom will all be in the Prem at the same time next year. There's more than a few rivalries amongst them, even if Villa is obviously on another plane of existence from the other clubs.

On a similar note: ain't it a shame that we're just barely going to miss out on West Ham and Milwall in the Colaship next year... darn...
