World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I know all of you probably don't follow MLS too much....

I'm making an effort this year and I've enjoyed some of the games I've seen so far. Red bull does look like they've rebounded nicely from last year's debacle. I hope to catch the game they play against Philly this week. Should be the start of a nice little rivalry.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

At this point I see no reason to look at forwards beyond Davies, Altidore, Ching, Buddle, and Gomez. We should take at least three of those five if we intend to play Dempsey or Donovan up front and four if we don't.

But you're right, BB maybe too stuck in his system to break the mold now.

Yeah, I've never been a huge fan of Ching to be honest, and coming off an injury now too. Although Landon said in an interview this week that Ching is one of the players he feels best playing with, so I guess I'll defer to him on that one.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Wow, somehow I'm in first place in my fantasy league. I'd probably be running away with it if I hadn't had Jussi Jaaskelainen autodrafted for me. (Clean sheets are a category and Bolton don't keep many.)

I feel for Fulham and the Pool. Having to go by train to Germany and Spain respectively. I can see their gripes if they lose.

Judging by how Barcelona played today, with their 9+ hour bus ride, I don't know how those two are going to cope.

I totally agree. I do not like the Pool at all, but they are getting the shaft as is Fulham. Do they have EPL fixtures this weekend too?

Absurd officiating in that match. What part of Milan was that ref from? Not the red part, that's for sure.

I don't know if I'd say "anti-football" but they pretty clearly got the short end of the stick today.

Most of the decisions were correct. Booking Alves for a dive when there was contact in the box wasn't the right decision, but I'm not sure there was really enough contact to give Barca a PK. I would have just called nothing there.

Milito's goal is argued to be offside, but he was originally onside and the play happened so quickly that the linesman never was able to reset to the new position. I can't blame the official there, because the goal was mostly Sneijder with a terrible header that went right to Milito.

He gave silly yellow cards. But he wasn't that abysmal.

Barcelona fans will argue that he was anti-football but he wasn't. Barcelona was diving all over the pitch trying to get calls. They also were complaining after every decision. Some refs are intimidated by this but some react very poorly to this kind of tactic.

Can I say "typical Spaniards" or will I catch flak like Sir Alex did? :D :D

Ribery with a straight red for a bad challenge on Lisandro.

37 minutes and he'll of course miss the second leg.

Unbelievable.

The referee who gave him the red was an Italian...not that I'm suggesting anything.
