Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

That'll make things interesting.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

That was a horrendous second yellow for a high boot. He didn't even catch anyone, he just had a high boot.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

That's Muller's goal, and if so, I think that was from an offside position.

Right now they've announced it for Robben.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Ribery with a straight red for a bad challenge on Lisandro.

37 minutes and he'll of course miss the second leg.

Unbelievable.

I thought it was a good call. Late, high, and dangerous. Now in England that probably just would have earned him only a disapproving glance from the referee, but it is what it is.

I think its a red all the way. In England he might have gotten a yellow.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

1-0 Atletico at the half. Liverpool had a perfectly good goal waived off for an offside decision that was not close.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I'll take a scoreless draw on the road and the chance to advance with a win at home. Hamburg looked somewhat more threatening but generally didn't throw anything out that Fulham couldn't handle.

I thought the offside that negated the Liverpool goal was questionable.

If by questionable you mean he perfectly timed it and it wasn't even all that close (by the standards linesman are held to) then yes, it was questionable.

Additionally, does Forlan head the ball into his own arm before he scores? Its difficult to tell on the replays, but the ball seems to stop abruptly.

The announcers didn't think so and neither does anyone on the board, chalk that one up to woeful defending and Reina for whatever reason refusing to use his arms to make it more difficult for Forlan to score.

The Hunt Sports Group is a disgrace. What pathetic scenes tonight in Dallas.

Pizza Hut must have gotten some guarantees on national tv time because theres no way MLS headquarters would ever select an FC Dallas home game on a Thursday for an ESPN broadcast.

No way there were 8500 people there tonight as FCD is claiming. No freaking way.

The HSG and Bob Kraft deserve praise for saving MLS when it looked pretty dire, but now it's time for Garber to get tough with them, tell them to either put some effort into their teams or get the hell out.

Lamar Hunt is angry in his grave. He wouldn't have let this happen while he was alive.

Hunt Sports sold Kansas City and the turnaround in that franchises fortunes has been enormous. Theres no reason a metro area of 6 million people thats 25 percent Hispanic should have attendance this pathetic. The team isn't even that bad and they play in a relatively new facility.

I can't say enough good things about Lamar Hunt and what he did for the sport, but his descendants need to sell the team to someone who can actually get a halfway decent crowd there.

Dammit Arsenal, be up one time! Do something useful for once!

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Wonder how they'd do segregated seating at Fenway for this friendly? They'd certainly need to, although I'd expect 75% Celtic supporters for a match in Boston.

I'd love to see this match happen, although being selfish I wish they'd move it to a week later so I'd be back from my honeymoon and could actually attend!!

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Goodness sake, between today and last Saturday against United, Manchester City have stolen 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Arsenal 0 - Man City 0

Thanks for the effort, Arsenal. Cripes.

Battle for fourth:

Spurs (64 pts, +26 GD): Bolton, @Man City, @Burnley
Man City (63, +27): Villa, Spurs, @West Ham
Villa (61, +15): Birmingham, @Man City, Blackburn
Liverpool (59, +24): @Burnley, Chelsea, @Hull

I think Man City have to have the edge, getting Spurs and Villa at home, and a West Ham team unlikely to have anything to play for.
