Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Well, Jozy will get to start his World Cup prep early. Straight red today for head butting Alan Hutton. Video:

I don't blame Jozy, that Hull team is a sinking ship. I'd be pretty frustrated, too.

That red gets him a three game suspension; Hull has only 2 games left. That will end his Hull career, he's still Villareal property.

Not just sinking, but essentially sunk. As far as I can figure, Hull are down unless they win their last two games, and West Ham loses their last two games, and Hull make up 23 goals in goal differential over those four games. It's not happening.

Too bad Burnley couldn't have picked up a few more matches and stayed up instead of the cheaters though.

Wow Hutton is a cowardly scumbag and that ref is a god **** fool. There was barely any contact. Maybe a yellow for Jozy, but nothing more.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

No complaining from the Villa fans today, that pen was absolutely a joke. In fact almost all the penalties were a joke today, Chelsea's was two yards outside the box!

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

A late penalty from James Milner ensures that the Villa will never be mastered by those (Birmingham) City b******s!

That makes five in a row for the Villa over Blues.

That penalty was embarrassing. If that's a pen, there are about 20 pens a game. The officiating in all the games was horrid.

Even Everton's pen, while a legitimate foul, only happened because of the ref's wrong decision, Fulham deserved a throw in.

You need to take off the red, white, and blue glasses. That was a red every day of the week and twice on Sunday, and if Jozy weren't automatically suspended for three games, I think they would tack the extra two on.

Edit, evidence:

UTV!!!

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Just plain wrong throw-in decision leads to Everton's late penalty. But as poor as Fulham were today, I can't honestly say it was an unfair result on balance.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Jozy's action were silly, and he deserved a red card and the 3 game ban that comes with it.

That said, Hutton fell over like a little girl, and I think to extrapolate anything more from the incident is wrong.

Um, yeah.

In other news, here's how things stack up in some of the leagues in Europe as we hit the homestretch.

England: A 2 horse race, as I'm sure everyone knows. Chelsea are up a point on Man Utd--they are at Anfield and home to Wigan. Man Utd are at Sunderland and home to Stoke, but will probably be without Wayne Rooney. At the bottom, Portsmouth have long since been relegated. Hull and Burnley are in the bottom 3 and will likely also drop to the Championship.

Scotland: It's over. Rangers wrapped up their 53rd title with a 1-0 victory at Hibernian. Three matches remain in Scotland, but the only suspense is relegation: Falkirk or Kilmarnock will likely go down, although St. Mirren isn't out of the woods yet.

Italy: Inter Milan and Roma will battle to the wire. With 3 matches left, Inter has a 2 point lead thanks to Roma's loss to Sampdoria. Both teams play their remaining matches against teams in the bottom half of the league. Livorno and Siena are at the foot of the table.

Spain: 4 matches remain and Real Madrid & Barcelona are level with 65 points. At the bottom. Xerex, Valladolid and Tenerife are the most likely to be relegated, with Zaragoza right there as well.

Germany: 2 matches remain, and Bayern Munich and Schalke are level with 64 points. Nobody else has a shot to win the league. 5 teams are in the relegation battle (2 drop). Hertha Berlin and Hannover are the bottom 2 teams right now, but Hannover is just one point from safety.

France: 4 matches remain, and only 2 teams have a legit shot at winning. Marseille is the likely champion at 71 points, 5 up on Auxerre. Grenoble is relegated, Boulogne probably is as well. Le Mans is 8 points behind St Etienne, so they're probably down, too.

That's it! Great time of year with the final weeks of the domestic season, plus cup finals and the Champions League semis and finals! And the World Cup is what, 6 weeks away?

Not sure where you're getting your information. Barcelona have 87 points and Madrid have 86.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

A couple of minor comments/corrections:
* Burnley are relegated as of yesterday. Seven points out with two games to play.
* Although Hull are not officially relegated, it would take a minor miracle for them to stay up, as they're six points out with 23 GD to make up.
* Barcelona are actually a point up on Real, not level, and they have the tiebreaker thanks to winning the season series.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

The season is young yet, and from what I could see on TV, there looked to be some dreary weather in a few areas, but attendance in MLS has been worrying to say the least.
Some numbers from the weekend:
Dallas- 8,512
New York - 15,612 (In a brand new stadium, in nice weather, against a local opponent!)
Columbus- 14,322 (Another HSG masterstroke)
New England - 8,142 (Thanks Bob Kraft!)
Chicago- 11,312 (Bad weather here, and they sold out the opener, so hopefully not indicative of a trend.)

Numbers from Steve Goff's Soccer Insider Blog.

It's not like that time Dida toppled over five seconds after getting slapped by a Celtic supporter (still hilarious, btw).

But I do think it's worth taking another look, if only to laugh at Hutton.

Last I saw, MLS was averaging more than NHL and NBA regular season?

Yeah, I'll issue a mea culpa on my idiotic drunken post . That was absolutely a red card and one dumbass mistake from a young player. Furthermore, the referee handled the situation well. Offsetting reds is probably what the incident deserved. Having said that, Steve Bruce's statement that Hutton could've been seriously injured (broken nose was among the parade of horribles) was idiotic. Its nice to see the second it takes Hutton to figure out that in fact it was indeed time to flop.

You only had to look at the markets hosting this week and realize things weren't going to be good. Dallas on a Thursday (or anytime really) and New England hosting is a recipe for a bad week.

Considering the weather in C-Bus, 14k isn't horrible.

The only number I really wish was higher was in NYC, but that team has been so pitifully managed that it may take some time to build up steam.

The Rivaldo dive is still my favorite.
