World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Pompey 2-0 in ET. Tottenham had a goal called back on a terrible decision in extra time that would have made it 1-1. And hit about 19 posts. Whatever. Let's just get 4th, but it's gonna be hard to catch Man City in their current form.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I think most folks hadn't gone to a soccer game with 35k before and may have expected to walk right in...we were there tailgating 2.5 hours before the game and the lot closest to the stadium was 50% full...we headed in at 5 and made it in plenty of time but the lines were 50-75 deep at every metal detector...getting there at 5 meant finding a spot, parking pretty far away and having a 10+ minute walk just to get in line.

They didn't do a real good job publicizing the lockdown for the VP.

It was a very exciting game, Torres is pretty good for an 18yo.

Glad to have been there.

It was a nice crowd to see when I watched the highlights online. The second (Philly) goal was especially nice to watch.

How many more games are scheduled for the Linc?

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Props on Pompey getting to the FA Cup Final, but it's going to be 6 beer ugly. The Soviets... ERRRR... Chelski are too strong. I don't think we will see a Miracle on Grass.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Oh good, the Scum are going to win the FA Cup. Way to crap the bed, Spurs.

1 more for sure. The first two tickets didn't even have a seat location for PPL Park. The third one does. The schedule has been managed such that Union's third home game isn't until June 27. That gives them a long time to get it done but there has been no shortage of issues, including terrible weather. When they put up the first tarps that serve as a 'roof' over the stands they were ripped in the first storm that came through.

So, we'll have lots of home games in the late summer/fall. Which could be tough since we're expansion and might be at the bottom of the table, but the enthusiasm is sky high right now.

It's Spurs and Villa. What did you expect?

Oh and i'll take a 0-0 draw for Blackburn/Man United. Anything to help keep them away from the title. :D

Blackburn is going to get hammered IMHO. United is still seething after 2 staight hose jobs by the refs in the Chelski and Munich games. 3-0 United.

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

Villa was even into, what, the 67th minute? Gave up 1 at 89 and 1 in ET; They didn't pull the goalie:D but they had to take risks late if they had any hope.

From the villians side, at least it wasn't 7-1 again;)

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I thought I had read somewhere that Pompey aren't eligible for 2010-2011 Europa League, even if they win the FA Cup (ha!). Something to do with a failure to enter in some paperwork.

Is that true, or have I turned this thread into a den of lies?

Re: World Soccer XII: South Africa Awaits

I just noticed that Robin van Persie got back on the field on Wednesday. That's pretty cool for Arsenal and for the Netherlands and (most importantly) for my fantasy team, which could use the injection of offense he might provide down the stretch. (Actually, what we could really use is defenders on teams that keep clean sheets, but that's a separate issue.)
