Really.... their quality has been coming thru lately big time. 4th place and Champions League football is still possible.

The Donovan saga could become quite fascinating. While I wouldn't a tribute it entirely to his performance, you can't help but notice that their recent run of form has coincided with his arrival.

I will be quite upset if he's forced to come back to the Galaxy in March. Signs point to that though.

On another note, I'm incredibly excited for tomorrow morning's Liverpool- Man City game.
City's been in awful form lately, plus we have a lot of weird stuff going on in the squad. Tevez back home in Argentina for the birth of his child, Bellamy and Mancini getting into a tussle. I'd be happy with 1-1 or 2-2 to be honest.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

Togo had their appeal on the 2012 ACN ban heard by the international sport court.

Yeah, it was denied. People are freaking stupid.

nothing like contempt of governance... gotta bow to your masters ya know.

Not if MLS goes on strike, which would, imo, be about the dumbest thing the league could do at this point.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

That would be like the WNBA going on strike. Are they effing serious???

Apparently. I agree with the players on some of their demands, especially a raise in the minimum salary for senior players and development prospects, but some of their demands would endanger the single entity system and open them up to a suit for anti-trust violations or a possible DOJ/FTC investigation.

The single entity structure in many ways can be credited with allowing the league to survive at the turn of the millenium and continue to grow.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

The MLS players are absurdly underpaid. I remember one year a draftee chose to play in a lower US league because he would be paid substantially better.

"Underpaid" is a relative term. The league certainly is not making money hand over fist right now, although they're doing substantially better than they were in the early days.

Well, I guess that is the key then. Better to be "underpaid" and still have a league than to bankrupt it by demanding too much. Just my $0.02, but I think a prolonged strike my well be a death knell to MLS.

You would hope both parties would recognize this. I agree that, while I'm sympathetic to the players, if they overreach here this could all blow up in their faces and there aren't that many slots out in the world for 384 MLS players.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

There's the new NASL league I suppose that a few players could go to.
I doubt many of them would be able to play in Europe without work permit issues.

The NASL is just a portion of the USL under a different name. They may be able to pick up a few players, but they couldn't afford a lot of them before and won't be able to afford a lot of them now.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

I'll give Everton credit. They really deserved the win. Anyways, maybe the strike will help Landon out because he can stay and prove that he belonged in Europe to begin with.

The wins also prove who vastly underrated David Moyes is as a manager.

Re: World Soccer XI: To South Africa, and Beyond!

WOW! Two games in a row that Bobby Zamora nets a stunning winner! :D

If the players strike then they wouldn't be able to play anywhere since they would still be under contract. If the owners lockout then yes they could.
