Rooting against Brian McBride and for Rafa Marquez feels dirty.
To be fair, the Fire aren't really "prominently" featuring Castillo yet.I'm rooting for a tie.
It's the only way to reconcile my feelings for two teams that feature Mexican nationals so prominently.
That, and my usual disdain for all sports teams from New York and Chicago.
And honestly, he's not as irritating as Blanco.
The problem with the Southeast is that it seems nobody worthwhile wants to own a team there.
Florida as a whole seems like a deadland for MLS (and for a lot of other sports as well, look at the issues with the Marlins, Jaguars, Panthers, even the Dolphins). The issues that plagued Miami and Tampa still loom large in many minds at MLS and there's been no reason to go back anytime soon outisde of some serious money wanting in.That, and if you're wanting to develop rivalries based on being close to each other, there's not really anybody near Atlanta or Miami to have a rivalry with. To make a College hockey comparison, they would be a bit like Alabama-Huntsville. Atlanta would really need to try talking a group from like Nashville, Birmingham, or Charlotte perhaps to get serious as well, so that they could get in at the same time at the next round of expansion. Miami, pretty much in the same boat as well. They would need another Florida city to want to get in on the action, or perhaps even say a Caribbean group to get interested as well perhaps.
Do you think you can get 20k to come out and watch games throughout a summer when its hot as hell like it was in dallas today? This is why I don't see the 20th team going to the SE.Florida as a whole seems like a deadland for MLS (and for a lot of other sports as well, look at the issues with the Marlins, Jaguars, Panthers, even the Dolphins). Anywhere else in the South, outside of a minor bid from Atlanta, has shown no interest in MLS. And MLS seems more interested in placing teams in other, willing cities.

Plus you have to find a way to put natural grass in your domed stadium, because (I have to imagine) the league isn't inclined to accept new stadium proposals involving artificial turf considering how good a job they've been doing of getting away from it over the past few seasons.Yeah, You're going to have attendence problems with MLS in the SE with most of the season running when its hotter than the Devil's Boxers there. Not unless you got somebody there that can get a 30,000 seat domed stadium that has an AC system powerful enough to double as a meat locker in the off season.

It is a consideration, but not that big of a deal. They do it here in Phoenix all summer in the D-backs stadium. I know people who, part of the reason they'll go to a D-backs game, is to be in the air-conditioned stadium. With a little marketing, it could be a solid plus in selling people on soccer in the summer.
News just breaking on Twitter: Martin O'Neill resigns from the Aston Villa job.
Crazy.
Edit: Here's a club statement. http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/ClubNewsDetail/0,,10265~2116445,00.html
It sounds like maybe he's out of the loop regarding what's going on, and unhappy that Milner might be sold without his consent. It's a little odd in that it seems like Villa are getting the better of the deal that's been rumored - I might take Ireland in a straight swap for Milner, let alone Ireland and a pile of cash.I think there's been fresh contact. I couldn't tell you whether there's been a renewed offer... I think losing your best players at the football club would obviously cause you a headache. That's a problem, it's a problem because you're trying to build something and something like this happens. It happened obviously two seasons ago with Gareth - a few seasons ago now - the two years ago when it didn't get resolved and I'm not so sure anyone wants to go down that route again.
