Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

So, what teams do you always cheer against?

For me, I always cheer against:

Mexico. I hope their stadium implodes.

Not fond of ManU, Real, Rangers, Bayern, Chelsea, and pretty much all of Italy, but really. Mexico annoys me.

I like the USMNT and Manchester City. That's really about it. I'm open to finding an MLS team, but one really hasn't stuck yet.

I hate Mexico, Manchester United, and any team managed by Harry Redknapp.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I've only recently started following international soccer, and for some reason I really like Portsmouth. Dunno why really.

And I'm a Revs fan as well of course.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I don't know that I have built up any real hatred for club teams. I dislike some of them, like ManU and Arsenal. But hate is a bit strong.

However like most, I do hate Mexico and Italy as national teams.

Colombia (Any group of citizens that kill a man for scoring an own goal have earned my scorn for life.)

The current theory is Escobar's murder was unrelated to soccer, but just Jersey Shore with guns.

machismo + alcohol + firearms = death

Well it is sort of soccer related. Those people were giving him a hard time about his own goal, he took offense, they took his life.

Well, I know, but that's kind of like saying Marvin Gaye died because he liked Wheel of Fortune.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Dammit. Who are we going to pawn Bradley off on now?

Speaking of, it's been confirmed that he will coach the upcoming friendly against Brazil, and a decision will be made after that regarding his future.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Saw this coming a mile away.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...n-six-hour-public-inquiry-over-World-Cup.html

North Korea's football team has been shamed in a six-hour public inquisition and the team's coach has been accused of "betraying" the reclusive leader's heir apparent following their failure at the World Cup, according to reports.

The entire squad was forced onto a stage at the People's Palace of Culture and subjected to criticism from Pak Myong-chol, the sports minister, as 400 government officials, students and journalists watched.

The players were subjected to a "grand debate" on July 2 because they failed in their "ideological struggle" to succeed in South Africa, Radio Free Asia and South Korean media reported.

The team's coach, Kim Jong-hun, was reportedly forced to become a builder and has been expelled from the Workers' Party of Korea.

The coach was punished for "betraying" Kim Jong-un - one of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-il's sons and heir apparent.

The country, in its first World Cup since 1966, lost all three group games – including a 7-0 defeat to Portugal.

The broadcast of live games had been banned to avoid national embarrassment, but after the spirited 2-1 defeat to Brazil, state television made the Portugal game its first live sports broadcast ever.

Following ideological criticism, the players were then allegedly forced to blame the coach for their defeats.

Only two players avoided the inquisition - Japanese-born Jong Tae-se and An Yong-hak, who flew straight to Japan after the tournament.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Just ban them from international play, their nation is a joke. Its not their fault they suck, they're just not that good.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

Its not their fault they suck compared to the teams they played against. All of the other teams could have been in the finals and no one would have blinked an eye.

The two countries who really need to feel shame over North Korea's qualification are Iran and Saudi Arabia. Either one of them should have destroyed Chollima in the last qualifying round. If Iran had beaten UAE the way they should have (they tied in Dubai, UAE's only point of the whole final round) or if Saudi Arabia had scored even one goal against the Norks in Riyadh on the last day, either one would have qualified ahead of Kim's XI.

Re: World Cup Soccer XVII: There can only be ONE!!!11!!!

I don't know, I could think of a few European teams who could have done with a nice long public humiliation when they got home.
