This is the last Copa Libertadores that Mexico will be in for the near future.
Also, they don't get two bites at the apple in the sense that if Chivas were to win the Copa Libertadores, they could not advance to the Club World Cup.
An MLS team winning the CONCACAF Champions League would be a real stretch at this point. Each season since the new format started only one MLS team has even made it through the group stage and none has made the semi-finals. The USL actually has a slightly better CCL track record than MLS.
I do think CCL success is the fastest track to international credibility the MLS has. If we can't demonstrate we are better than the FMF, no one will take us too seriously.
