Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

I agree with your statement about it being hard to judge. However, this very logic prompts me to ask on what basis you feel that UWRF should be ranked fourth, ahead of Norwich, for example? Why not third or fifth? Maybe we should just split the poll into an East poll and a West poll?

2.) RIT
3.) Platty
4.) Norwich
5.) Middlebury
6.) Manhattanville
7.) Trinity

West

3.) Lake Forrest
4.) Stevens Point
5.) St. Kates

such an assanine discussion. Why should should RIT be 2 and Plattsburgh 3? There aren't enough comparitive results at this point to make that justification. I think River Falls is going to win the NCHA and probably make waves in the Frozen Four this year...just throwin that out there...meaning I predict our first western champion.

This is why you can't have an east poll and a west poll. Their just aren't enough teams to make it worthwhile. Neuman at 2-2, Elmira at 2-3, , Norbert at 4-3.

Mnhock...i'm only giving love to Point until Superior sweeps their next 3 games :) :)

I really don't see the justification for Elmira being in the poll at this point in time. Their losses were to ranked teams, but they also tie Oswego..who just tied Cortland twice.

History would show that ties don't affect teams as much as we might think they should compared to losses in this poll...if you tie you're given the benefit of the doubt. The fact that the NESCAC hasn't played yet is also affecting the poll a bit I think.

They just split with Manhattanville.

Personally I didn't have them in. But, I can see why they are still getting votes. It's Elmira. It's going to take a drastic event for them to drop out of the poll. Same thing for Middlebury and Plattsburgh.

Amherst, RIT, and Gustavus Adolphus are probably in that boat too now.

Agreed. I think we saw that in the fact that the Plattsburgh men are still ranked this week  Some teams just get respect, deservedly so or not.

I can live with being called assanine, as long as you didn't mean to call me assinine. At this stage RIT belongs in front of Platty based on their quality win over Norwich while Platty has played no quality opponents. My point was that you can compare RIT and Platty, but how can you compare UWRF and Norwich?

I called the discussion assanine. My point is that with no comparitive results its impossible to say that RIT is better than Plattsburgh or vice versa. They have no common opponents or anything to judge that on. The same way you can't compare Norwich and River Falls. I understand the difficulty in ranking the teams, but to blindly say that the east trumps the western teams constantly is the assanine part of the discussion. You folks will always feel that way, until in a one and done situation 600 miles from home a top western team beats the best two eastern teams on consecutive nights in March. I get that.

Along the same lines why are there any non-WCHA teams even ranked in the D1 women's poll then?

The D1 women's poll should read
WI
UMD
MN
ND
Bemidji
Ohio State
St Cloud
MNSU
Cornell
Mercyhurst

Just because we have struggles at the FF doesn't mean the west teams are inferior to the east.

Sorry, I'm still not buying it. If us "Easterners" suggested that Utica or Colby should rank ahead of Western teams then your analogy to DI might hold water. All I suggested was that ranking UWRF ahead of Norwich requires comparisons that don't exist, and I think you agreed with me. Ergo, we should do separate regional polls. Perhaps its too early in the season to compare Platty and Norwich since they haven't played any common opponents, but within a couple of weeks most of the Eastern powers will have common opponent games to draw inferences from. However, no matter how far into the season we go, we will never have sufficient data on inter-regional teams.

Your D1 poll is nowhere near what both the USCHO and USA Today polls show. Both polls list 5 East teams and 5 West teams in the top 10. Yet the USCHO poll for D3 Womens only lists 2 West teams compared to 8 East teams. Unfortunately the USA Today does not list D3 Womens teams.

Your D1 list seems off from what people who coach and follow the D1 Womens Hockey. Perhaps you were just over exaggerating to make a point.
