Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Here is my poll. Based on the results from the PWR.

1- Wis. River Falls
2- RIT
3- Plattsburgh
4- Middlebury
5- Amherst
6- Norwich
7- Gustavus Adolphus
8- Trinity
9- Adrian
10- Elmira

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Here is my poll. Based on the results from the PWR.

This is more of an explanation question. How do the PWR have Amherst at 5? I see they have them with the #1 SOS and #1 OWP, but they are 2-4-2 against the teams above them. Wins against Middlebury and Trinity. Is it a similar situation to Middlebury last year. They get credit for playing the tough teams even though they lose to them??

I'm not saying they shouldn't be top 10, but I can't see number 5. Norwich beat Amherst, so you'd think they'd at least be ahead of them.

Well, frankly, in my rankings I had them tied in the PWR. That said, you can't have ties in the rankings so I had to decide who to put above the other. That said...

Code:
    Amherst vs Norwich
WIN 0.7143 0 0.7941 1
SOS 0.5713 1 0.5296 0
H2H 0- 1- 0 0 1- 0- 0 1
COP 2- 2- 2 1 2- 3- 0 0
RNK 4- 5- 2 0 3- 3- 0 1

*The RNK is based on the projected rankings I posted in the other thread.

That said, COP and RNK are a wash. So we come to Win%, SOS, and H2H. The Win% gap is essentially a game and a half difference. The H2H is pretty straight forward. Then comes the SOS. While .0417 may not seem like a huge lead, when it comes to SOS it is a very large gap. Knowing how SOS has been viewed in the past it was enough for me to give the edge to Amherst. Although you certainly can make a case for Norwich as well, I wouldn't really disagree with either as they are so extremely close.

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

1- Middlebury
2- Norwich
3- Trinity
4- Amherst
5- Bowdoin

10- Elmira

Note: Holy Cross and St. Anselm are not DIII and therefore are not counted in the poll

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Well we know the west is wrong for sure, which certainly makes the top ten wrong

If you think it is wrong them maybe you should vote. This is the fan opinion poll, they decide what is right.

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

2) RIT
3) Plattsburgh
4) Norwich
5) Middlebury
6) Amherst

If it makes you any happier, The Berry Patch has the top five West teams as
1.UWRF
2. GAC
3. Adrian
4. St Mary
5. UWS

The only West teams to qualify in the top ten in The Berry Patch are UWRF and GAC. With the inclusion of ST Anselm, Adrian would rank 12th

Could change with the results of tomorrows game: Norwich @ Middlebury

The USCHO.com Poll is compiled weekly and consists of 15 voters, all coaches of Division III programs. USCHO.com provides in-depth coverage of college hockey.

Little bit of a surprise that Norwich jumps to three. The thing that is unfortunate is the Cadets are only 13-3-1 in the NCAA's eyes.

I'd flip-flop Adrian and UWS!

So they don't count the d 2 teams like ST Mikes, St A and Holy Moly that we've beaten?

No those games don't count as far as the NCAA is concerned. Neither do the out of region games...for example, Adrian's games vs RIT. Adrian has that advantage. Instead of being 14-6-3(.67), in the NCAA's eyes they are 12-3-3 (.72).

Interesting to me that one voter must have River Falls at 3, since they only have 144 points instead of 145. I could see having RIT ahead still, but not #3.

Falconsannouncer...10 pts vs 8pts, not much goin on there anyway.

post 538 UWS over Adrian if the poll is for miss congeniality. Hockey wise Adrian has a better record beat them head to head and leads them in just about every statistcal catagory except losses and goals against.

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Why should they?

Better question is why don't they reclassify into D-III since for all intent and purposes they are D-III teams when it comes to hockey. The thing that really blows my mind is that Holy Cross (Division I institution) had a D-III all-american in Hotchkiss last year.

My thoughts exactly but that and more has been hashed around for years now... bottom line... keep winning till the end.

Re: Women's DIII 2010-2011 Fan Opinion Poll

Here's a hypothetical.:D
Do we have the definition of Strength Of Schedule all wrong?
Amherst has the toughest SOS (394.7). How does it have so many wins? Being 2 time consecutive national champ we expect them to win most of their games and are shocked when they do lose.
Among the bottom four teams Three of them have the lowest SOS.(25.43, 29.00, 37.72) The other's SOS is 104.90.Between the four teams they have amassed a total of 3 wins and have accumulated a total of 73 losses and 2 ties. Every team they play we expect them to lose. So who has the toughest (SOS)row to hoe????
