Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Why are these 2 teams even in it? lets do the 2 polls and see how many east and west people there are..Please say if you from the west or east then do it.
9 Manhattanville
10 Middlebury

It's a "FAN POLL". That is why. There is no right and no wrong answer. We will see how close every one is in less than a month, when all of the tournaments are complete.

I love the theory. The easterners are biased to the eastern teams but the westerners are right.

i would actually agree with it a lot. the only reason i would put superior over st thomas though is cause of their performances this year agianst RF. the part i have troubles with is the top 3. not saying my team NEEDS to be number one here, just that RF tied LF both games this year. and tied and lost by 1 to GAC this year. thus making the top 3 hard for me to decide

and no, not saying we ARE right. just we feel right. in all reality everybody is biased towards their own team, conference, and side of the country. i'm telling you right now that i KNOW that there's east teams better than west teams. just not 8 east teams better than the top west teams.

They're pretty close. Early in the year Superior beat St Thomas 3-0, A few weeks ago St Thomas beat Superior (essentially) 1-0. Other than that....Superior has a better record against tougher competition.

They are very even. They split, Superior is 1-1 vs GAC, St Thomas 1-0-1, UST is 0-2 against RF, Superior 1-1.....Both are 1-1 vs UWSP.

Top 3 in the west are tough to decide so i'll just go with the NCAA :D

1. Lake Forest
2. River Falls
3. Gustavus

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I realize that we have eastern bias...but I see no reason to go against our eastern bias.

The east hasn't really seen much from the west this year, but what we have seen wasn't anything impressive.

Adrian goes 2-6-1 in the east and 11-4-1 in the west.
The only 2 eastern teams they beat were under .300, they barely tied an over .370 team, 4 of their losses were to teams just over .500, and the other 2 were to a ranked team.
In the west they are doing fairly well, splitting with the 2 ranked teams and not losing to anyone under .500.

Lake Forrest has been pretty much dominating in the west but had trouble out east beating a couple middle of the pack teams.

That shows me that they can hang with the best of the west but can't hang with the "best" of the east. Sure that isn't much to go on and we'd like to see more games between the east and the west but can you really blame us for ranking the teams the way we do?

so, we're back to square one then. You know there aren't 8 east teams better than the top west teams. Your top west team, as Mania so aptly put, lost to a mid-pack east team. How do you know there aren't 8 teams better than the west teams? The only ranking that puts it that way is the computer ranking and there's no other way for the computer to figure that out because the west teams play other west teams who don't have as good winning percentages because they all seem to play the same caliber of hockey. What that caliber is is obviously the issue.

(and let the road legs, at least we went out east, UMass-Boston isn't that bad comments begin)

WELL SAID. I GUESS I AM EAST COAST BIASED TOO.
ADRIAN GETS DRUBBED OUT HERE BY MID PACK EASTERN TEAMS AND LAKE FOREST LOSES TO UMASS BOSTON. WHAT ELSE CAN I GO ON.

That is a fairly accurate statement. Also, I witnessed the Lake Forest Bowdoin game over the xmas break. The Lake Forest goalie stole that game making 41 saves (and giving up only 2 goals) while LF could only muster 27 shots, and several from a far distance. Bowdoin had the better talent, but as we know after watching the USA beat Canada, if we want to be honest, Canada was a better team, but our goalie stole the game. Bowdoin is a middle of the row team out east, and they were clearly better than LF at the tournament.

But why when Amherst loses to Colby, certainly a lower ranked team or Middlebury loses to Bowdein, a team that has not beat a .500 team all year, do they never go down in the polls?? But if a Western team loses to any Eastern team:eek: Just seems to be a little two faced. Even if they come West for the FF, I expect Platt to take it all because they are a great team. After Platty I doubt if there is much difference in the top two or three teams from EAST or WEST. Look how last years National Champs Amherst fared on their trip West last year:D More of the better Eastern teams should spend some of that endowment $$$$ and come visit the Blue Collar West more often to show us what good hockey is. That way the computers would have a better feel for the West, and so would the Eastern Pollsters. We Westerners know we have good hockey out here, but, we also know and recognize there is also some good hockey played out East.( Real Hockey...D1 is dominated by the West, but this could be the East's big year to break the mold). At least Amherst had the guts to come west and show how good they were.(and they are a good team) I truly think the Western Pollsters are just less biased. But hey, to each their own:)

THANK YOU! although i'm sure there will be some hurt feelings over the endowment money coment, that's what i'm trying to say. there's good teams east AND west. it seems that every person from the west on here is willing to admit that the top 5-6 teams can easily be from the east. and no eastern fan is willing to let a west team pass 8-9. and again, like i said earlier. it's hard to prove that the west is any good when there's limited games each year between the east and west.

that argument has little to no merit. The east proves its good by teams beating top teams in the east. the west teams should be able to prove on their own that they are a top team by beating up on everyone else. Do we not recall the gusties being No. 1 last year? It can happen. This season? Not so much.
