Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I just saw the Lake Forest / St. Mary's game. IMHO, Lake Forest will win many games this season. They have a highly skilled team with many new recruits adding some quickness to their play. Their PP is very formidable and they use a pressing style of forecheck to create many opportunities.

Carissa Zaban is a great coach and I really expect them to be ranked in the top ten, before too long.

Let's see how they do against a real team next weekend :D Should be a great opener up in Wessman...looks like Saturdays game will be webcast on www.ifan.tv

Sooooo glad to see that this prediction panned out thru regular season play. Lake Forest continues to impress and Zaban keeps them focused!!! Playoffs coming up.....GO FORESTERS!!!!!

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

shall we have some sort of ceremony?

if only it will happen. I'm guessin they hang on at 10, as pollsters will have a brain finger malfunction and not be able to resist putting down Middlebury because they've been doing it for 10 years.

With all due respect Adrian is tough to look at in the top 10. It discredits the west. You cant come out east and get beat up like they did. They didn't exactly play the Elmira's,Platty's and Amherst of the world. They lost to .500 teams and sub .500 teams out east. Their one Win was against lonely Castleton State and they barely got by them.

1-6-1 (vs East)

Neuman-Loss
Neuman-Loss
Utica-Loss
Utica-Loss
RIT-Loss (crushed)
RIT-Loss (Crushed)
Potsdam-Tie
Castleton-W (2nd Worse team in ECAC East-Squeaked out a 3-1 win)

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Did anyone see the USCHO poll yet? I know that I'm not an expert but I still cannot believe that St. Kate's hasn't been ranked, that Middlebury still IS ranked, and that RF finishes 3rd in their division and gets ranked above LF who won the division....I know, I know, there are a lot of "other factors" but I guess I'm not understanding if the people who are voting are actually aware of things outside of name recognition.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Adrian has no business being in just like Manhattanville has no business being 5 or 6.

People have been writing Middlebury down for 10 years....they can't not do it. Likewise, the same people can't fathom St. Kate being good.

River Falls and Lake Forest are separated by 3 points. RF finished 2nd in the NCHA not 3rd. They tied eachother head to head...it could go either way.

Maybe Mville has no right being 5 or 6 but they did something something (outside of #1 Platty and #2 Amherst) no other team in that poll could do. Beat Elmira. Mville 4/6 loses came against the #1 and #3 teams in country. As far as I'm concerned they have had a better showing than RIT (just look @ common opponents)

PS- I couldn't agree more about Middlebury (RIT should be in that same sentence-They havn't beat anybody all year. Not one one W vs a top 10 team)

I agree with you here. The way I see it the only maybe blemish on the valients schedule is a tie to a team just below .500. I think with the win over Elmira they should prbably be over RIT and maybe even Trinity for eastern teams.

Say What??? I take it this was Derek’s vote for the USCHO D-III poll also? In looking at the USCHO Poll, 13 1st place and 2 2nd place votes for Plattsburgh, 2 1st place and 13 2nd place votes for Amherst and 14 3rd place and 1 4th place vote for Elmira. There is consistency and probably a pretty accurate take. Then there is a mix of votes but probably a significant amount of 4th place votes for RIT. Could there possible be a subplot here where voters are trying to set RIT up for bigger and better things after what happened to them last year. Another subplot could be to keep GAC down with the expectation they get an auto-bid and place RF and LF high in hopes of getting that third western team and a western final. Are the voters that ingenious, am I on to something here or have I been looking out the window for the “Black Helicopters” for way to long? :D

I didn't realize the USCHO poll had an impact on the NCAA selections !!!

Manhattanville is probably below RIT because they have an incredibly weak schedule out side of Plattsburgh and Elmira and RIT beat them.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Manhattanville is probably below RIT because they have an incredibly weak schedule out side of Plattsburgh and Elmira and RIT beat them.

RIT has Amherst on its schedule (T+L) other than Elmira (T+L) and Platty (L+L). Manhattanville has three Norwich (.700) games (2W+L) and three Elmira (W-2L), Holy Cross (.792)(L), and Platty (L-L).

And I fail to see when and where RIT beat them.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

I believe the USCHO poll is made up of 15 individuals including coach's, maybe Sports Information Directors, Conference Commissioners, and Journalists. The split is something like 10 from the east and 5 from the west. Draw your own conclusions as to why the results are what they are each week.

The NCAA is made up of actually 3 committes. One for the west, one for the east, and one over all. Each committe is made up of 5 individuals. The five people on the over all are also on the region committes. Some members of the region committes may also be part of the group that votes in the USCHO poll each week. Also, the five person over all NCAA committe is made up of 3 from the east and 2 from the west with the chairperson being from the west but only voting to brake ties. Members of the committe are not allowed to participate if their school is being discussed or vote on.;) ;)

For all-american voting each coach gets to vote for all three all-american teams. 1st east, 2nd east, & west. With out much inter league play the eastern coachs have little to go on other than who scored the most goals as does the west coaches voting for the east teams.
