Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Right now if Superior only gets like 1 more loss(despite the stupid tie last weekend), they could make an argument for an at large bid...right now, I can't forsee GAC or St Thomas getting an at-large bid. An NCHA team will definitely get an at-large bid. Best case scenario of course is to have Lake Forest continue to win it all and then lose the NCHA semi's or finals.

It will all come down to how serious the NCAA is committed to bringing it west this year. Of course if Adrian does well against RIT this weekend it would help the west's case.

...or it all comes down to the fact that Middlebury/Amherst and Plattsburgh/Elmira/RIT can't all win their conference's respective championships and will get the at-large bids :p

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

yes I do:D It's a fan opinion poll and that's where I think they deserve to be placed on it. What place in your poll do you have them deserving ??:)

I understand it is a fan opinion poll and certainly every opinion is welcome.

All i said was I was curious how you could rank a team that Elmira beat two out of three times including just last weekend above them.

I just don't see what merits Manhattanville being ranked above Elmira when the Eagles beat them. Why do you think Manhattanville deserves to be ranked above Elmira even though they've lost to them 2 out of the 3 times?

Unless something has changed. I was told that the DIII Women's NCAA Tournament HAS to go West this year by the head of the Committee.

NCAA Web site has the championship listed as being played on highest seeds campus, not specifying east or west. Unless that means an undeserving West team gets No. 1, hosting rights and a first-round bye, of course.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Didn't everyone say this last year?

I thought the rule was one in every three years but I was corrected and told that the committee made the rule saying the tournament has to go west one in every four years.

This is the fourth year since the rule was established.

I guess we'll see if the committee stands by its earlier decision. Personally I think it will go to the higher seeded team in the west but the #1 team will get all of the perks beside hosting.

that has happened before. 2005 or 6 I think. If the 3 western teams make it they give the best west team the bye.

Then your scenario of Lake Forest running the table and then losing in the playoffs would be the best Western scenario.

That's about the only way I see things working out for the West getting three teams at this point unless another west team REALLY picks it up in the second half.

The West also needs to root for Amherst, Midd, and Plattsburgh to start picking up some losses.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

It would be a shame if the NCAA committee keeps a deserving team out(a 2nd Nescac or ECAC West)because they pre-determined where the tournament is going to be held. Isn't that cheating.

Well at this point we can't be certain if a 2nd NESCAC or ECAC West team deserves to be in.

Clearly we can't be certain of anything just yet, especially since the NESCAC teams have played so few games. But my original point was if we continue to see the trends that we've seen so far, Amherst, Middlebury, Plattsburgh and RIT are doing everything they need to do to support an at large bid, but NOBODY out West other than Lake Forest is keeping pace.

Looking forward to the Panther/Cardinal tournament coming up, we know that one of those four teams will likely come away with two losses. If that team happens to be Elmira, then the West only needs one of the remaining Eastern powers to stumble later on. If Elmira comes away with two wins, then that will put them right back into the thick of it and that's even more bad news for what is currently a lackluster group of Western teams.

Hey Prez, that 26-1 UWSP team from 2001-2002 was really left out? Who got the Pool B bid that year?

Yes they were.

Back then the ECAC West didn't have a Pool B bid as they had just six teams. Elmira won the ECAC West with a 24-1-1 and were awarded the Pool B bid over Stevens Point. Elmira had three wins over Plattsburgh, Manhattanville (who ended Middlebury's 100ish game win streak the night before), and Williams (when the Ephs were very good)

If Elmira had lost the ECAC West championship game to Plattsburgh, Stevens Point probably would have been in and hosted the FF. EC won though in double overtime in one of the best D-III women's games I've ever seen.

To this day I think Stevens Point and western fans are still a little steamed about that selection but atleast Elmira backed it up by winning the NC.

It is a possibility every year that a team will be left out, just this year the east is looking at a non favorable position instead of the west. So if you are looking for sympathy don't look to the west.

Re: Women's DIII 2009-2010 Fan Opinion Poll

Why should the FF not be held at the site of the highest seed. Personally I think the every 3 or 4 years whatever it is or is said to be is a bunch of bs. You want to host its simple: WIN. You want an at large bid WIN.

Hard to argue with that. Why isn't this the way it is?
