Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025

Imagine how relieved PA announcers and broadcasters will be when Nela arrives after spending a year figuring out how to pronounce Adela's name - fewer syllables in both given name and surname. It took a season or so for them to learn how to announce Sarah Woz properly. Maybe they are past the steep part of the learning curve.

So far at least, UW hockey at Wrigley Field is lucking out on the weather. The NHL game on New Year's Eve is going to get rain and snow mix, and the forecast for the day after the UW games is for 5 inches of snow. But right now, next Saturday is clear, with temps in the low 20s.

Watching this game on the jumbotron at the Kohl Center would provide a better view and would not be affected by the weather. If the athletics department insists on scheduling these boondoggles, they should make accommodations for fans who are not foolish enough to attend them in person.

All four games on the 3rd and 4th will be televised on BTN.

Does the team get a practice the day before or do they have to use the warm-up to get use to the outdoor conditions?

Anyone know of a place to purchase single-game tickets other than Stub Hub or Seat Geek? I am looking for a single ticket for Thursday and there is nothing reasonable on either site. Thanks!

If I were you, I’d just go to the game early and ask people if anyone has an extra ticket. I’ve given away tickets and seen plenty of other people do the same. Last year for one of the OSU games, I went with a friend who didn’t have a ticket. We got there right as the doors were opening, so there was a decent line. I had barely finished telling her to just start asking if anyone had an extra ticket when someone a few spots up in line overheard me and came over to offer his extra.

I think the jerseys are nice looking; classy. I think a white helmet would look cool. Am I compelled to purchase a 3rd jersey if available? Probably not. The weather looks nice, p/c high of 23. The wind will suck, WNW 10 to 15. I just hope the ice is good.

I don't like a premium matchup off a long break. I doubt the quality of the play will be what it would have been if the games were in the throws of consecutive weeks of play.

I complained about the hassle of the ticket/parking info getting into the wallet of the phone the last few years, but now they just magically end up in there. Pretty cool. A nice improvement.

Let's go RED!

For those with inquiring minds, the Badger Band is in attendance.

the badger band AND no cream or tertiary unrelated color in the women’s third jerseys? It’s official, someone at Wisconsin is lurking here.

glad game 1 is indoors. Stay safe at wrigleys ladies!

It took me a minute to realize why there was a band, with students all out-of-town for Christmas/semester break: they're going to Chicago to play at Wrigley for the men's and women's games on Saturday.

Sometime during the third period, I remember noting that SOG was 34-12 (IIRC). Ohio St closed the gap some from there on, but still...

I also noticed that the 4th line got some fairly significant ice time.

I think this is the most the 4th line has ever played under MJ. Maggie Scannell will be the next big star. Does everything well. Finley McCarthy also very impressive and Hannah Halverson has also shown she belongs. As good as they are this year, next year could really be amazing. I believe only Kotlowski, O'Brien, Woz and backup goalie Kuntz exhaust their eligibility. Pretty sure Lacey can come back next year if she chooses because her 1st half year shouldn't count due to Covid and she missed a year competing for an Olympic spot.

Next years squad brings in another stellar class including Adela Sapovalivova who is considered one of the worlds best young talents

Wow, that wasn't the game I expected. I think Coach got his "consistent effort" from start to finish. I do think it's interesting that OSU is rostering only three lines of offense with four lines of defense. I didn't notice this when we played down there, but maybe it's been that way all year. We aren't going to Chicago (spouse has an upcoming hip replacement) but I hope our players can put together a second stellar game to round out the series.

They only have ten forwards on their roster; I think St Martin missed some time with an injury, but I saw her on the ice last night. So, yeah, only three forward lines is what they have.

Adding: the UW team twitter page pretty much always posts line charts for both teams, and looking (closely) at the Ohio St chart, they list 'games played' for each player. 19 games played total for them going into last night, St Martin shows as having played in only 15 games played, and Makenna Webster - having missed games while playing field hockey - has played in only 9 games this year. So it's possible there was a game or two when they had only eight true forwards dressed. I don't know if one of the D players might have switched to forward to give them a full three lines.

It's a real look at the flip side of the transfer portal: Wisconsin rarely loses anyone. For all of Ohio St's successes in the portal, they've also had 6 forwards that theoretically could have been on the team this year transfer out or depart internationally. I don't think you can overrate how important that stability is in terms of providing roster depth.
