Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025

Good footwear is a must. Standing on concrete in the cold for a couple of hours can be painful.

Those "Hot Hands" chemical packets work well, and last a really long time, as long as they're getting enough oxygen buried down in your boots to keep the chemical reaction going.

I enjoyed seeing the Badger hockey women at the football game last night. I guess part of the new "fan experience" is to not line up the introduced team along the end line but instead to have them run out in a group and then interact in some way with the students (last night, they shot off the tshirt cannon). That meant I never actually got to see any faces to speak of. A group photo was taken at the end, facing away from me, and it isn't yet posted to facebook or X or to the web page. At least seeing them was proof that a 2024-2025 team exists!

Showing twice the enthusiasm for the January 2 game in the inviting confines of LaBahn Arena and – ignoring that this game will occur – is looking better all the time.

Out of pure curiosity, and not because I have any intention of attending, I checked ticket pricing and availability at MLB.com. The cheapest tickets in the nose-bleed sections are $25 each including fees and taxes. I doubt that you would have any sense from there that a hockey game was going on. Admission to the indoor “1914 Club” would run you twice the cost of a full set of tickets to the real home games.

IIRC, that's how they did the 'other teams' introductions last year, too - basketball, men's cross country, etc. Maybe the team members have more fun by being more 'active' that way?

(The football team was quite unimpressive, IMO. If W Michigan could have held on to those three or four potential interceptions, if might have been a very different outcome.)

The new roster limit isn't very friendly if you run into a bunch of injuries. I wonder if schools like Mankato, St. Cloud and Bemidji opt out of the settlement and just continue on as always? If you are not a true division 1 football school does it matter? It's going to be interesting to see how this works itself out over the next couple of seasons.

It's 26. How many teams carry 26 players now?

We're having the discussion on the "Women's College Hockey" forum, on a comment thread titled "Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2024-2025".

What's up with that comment? How many times have you posted about Women's Volleyball on the "Women's College Hockey" forum in threads with "Wisconsin Women's Hockey" in the title?

I think the context is pretty clear. Soon-to-be-implemented roster limits that, yes, will impact men's hockey, but have little if any impact on women's hockey.

Maybe one quarter of D1 teams have had more than 26 players in the past couple years.

In the ECAC, this year, for example, Clarkson has 29, as does RPI, Union 27, and Yale looks like they'll have over 26.

I think Wisconsin and Ohio State tend to keep it smaller because of wanting the maximum number of players on full scholarship, though that's just a guess. Since Ivies, I think RPI, and in the past Union, for example, do not give athletic-based scholarships, that may also affect their roster size.

Statistics for Clarkson last year show 25 players played in at least one game; one player played in a single game, but did register a shot; one played in nine games, zero shots, one shot blocked.

Statistics for RPI show 29 players played in at least one game; one is a goalie listed as having played in a game, but with zero minutes on the ice; another goalie is shown as having played in three games, but only actually played one period of one game; one played in two games, zero shots, one blocked and took a penalty; one played in only one game, zero shots but scored an assist.

Statistics for Union show 27 players played in at least one game; two of them in four games, registered in zero shots, zero blocks, zero everything.

I think teams will be OK with a 26 player limit.

I've been checking for a new roster frequently the last few weeks and now the link to the roster is broken, so it looks like they will be updating that soon. Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I contacted the ticket office about when single game tickets will go on sales and they told me that as of now, they did not know, but an email would go out.

I read an article about Decker getting into the US Hockey Hall Of Fame and it did strike me that based on her age she still could be a great player on the ice. This AM I woke up with the idea in my head that she perhaps retired when she did so she could get some coaching experience and build relationships within the US and North American HS aged hockey community because there is a handshake agreement with her and MJ that she will be the next coach at WI when he retires. It's crazy Watts eating a Mr. Goodbar right before bed and then getting 5 hours of sleep will do to a guy.

Let's GO RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
