Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

I really wish that had caught on more. I always liked the idea of coming up with songs for individual players.

Yeah, it didnt really take like it should have. It was really very catchy.

Long time no posts.....welcome back. Are you back as a regular or just a special guest?

Football alignment. What a joke UW got shipped out east. Barry must be a big pansy in the board room discussusions. And now he had the guts to cry about the FB facilities.

I will be in and out. Things are pretty busy, but Im going to try to make more of a regular appearance.

I may be the only one who isn't overly bothered by this.

• We still play for the axe every season.

• I never cared much about the Iowa "rivalry."

• We were only playing Michigan 2 out of every 4 seasons anyway and that should be about the same.

• I'm glad that Northwestern won't be a regular although the flipside of that is that Indiana WILL be a regular.

• I'm very excited to see OSU and PSU every season.

It's been a lot more often than that. Just a quick glance at past schedules, and this season will be the 6th straight they've played Michigan.

With the new schedule, there will always be one team from the opposite division that they will be in the midst of not playing for 4 straight seasons. So basically a freshman could come in, start every single game for 4 years, and never play Michigan (or Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan St., or Northwestern).

I hate facts.

Looking back to 1991 it's about 3 out of 4 seasons.

Still rather see OSU and PSU every year than UM and Iowa. Just my own preference. If Michigan was still a power, I might feel differently.

I just don't care about Iowa and never got into that rivalry. Maybe because I view Iowans as somehow lesser life forms. Who can say?

I admit that having Nebraska in our division would have been cool though.

I have a western bias in regards to the b11 er12. I would have had Nebraska, UW, Iowa, Rodents, NW and IL in one group. I really don't care about Pennsylvainia, Indiana, MEchigan or Ohio. Perhaps that comes from my travels and that's CCHA country. I know any way they would have cut it not everyone would be happy.

The thing that bothers me is Delaney putting so much stake in the past records to try maintain a competetive balance. The balance is going to swing as it does in the big 11er12, so trying to perfect that is just not going to accomplish a whole lot for the future. In my world, the divisions are based 1st on geography.

I don't think UW's pod is a bad draw. I think Penn St. will slowly fade, IN and IL will always suck, and Purdue will never contend, so that leaves UW in a good spot, behind OSU, provided Brett can deliver the goods he has bought.

Hockey talk....Just about a month til practice starts. Can you smell the ice yet? I hope they do another scrimmage like last year. That was really fun to go to for a preview. There's going to be a ton to scout at that game with all the new faces.

Still playing for the axe every season is probably the only good thing that the Badgers got out of this. Other than that, its all pretty sucky.
Leave it to the NCAA to take something good and screw it up though...

Dolan will be captain, Gardiner and Smith assistants.

Well this was the money hungry Big Ten administration/Big Ten Network that did this.

Dolan is a bit of a surprise, but I like it. He's a gritty guy who has paid his dues over the years. It kind of proves Eaves was right when he signed him very late in the recuiting process and we were all "why sign this guy when he's got awefull stats w/Chicago and we have enough forwards."

With the chilly weather last night, I cracked out my only UW hockey 3rd jeresy and wore it out and about. :D I'm getting the fever already.

Glad to see Im not the only one who thought about wearing his hockey jersey today.
Ive had the fever since about mid June. Lately Ive found myself watching Badger hockey videos on Youtube a couple times a week and getting the itch to go to a public skate at a local rink. Its been waaaaay too long!

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Is there any truth to the rumors that Minnesota may be going D-3 in all sports?

Their hockey team is gonna need to get a lot better just for them to get back to "One Sport School" status.

South Dakota? At home? Hahahahaha. :p :p :p :p

I never realized they were D-I...

Badger fans:

Go to the Denver road trip. Apprise bigus of this fact beforehand. Receive a special surprise.

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

They honored the 1990 team at the football game today.

Also: Theran Welsh was honored during halftime as a UW Athletics HOF inductee.

They got decent receptions from the crowd. Nothing overwhelming, of course. You know how indifferent a lot of the UW football fans are to the rest of the UW athletic department.

This is the same crowd that gave a rousing ovation to Barry Alvarez (you know, the same guy who called out hockey alums in the media for not donating enough to the new hockey facility, then a few months later pushes hard to get financial approval for a $77 million football facility).

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Bob McKenzie on Twitter: "Ex-Badgers Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh are the two NYR prospects here in TC who look to have legit shot of cracking NHL roster."

"Stepan, in particular, has been impressive. Centre is NYR's area of greatest concern."

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

Write this down on your 2011 calendars: The Saturday February 19 game against East Dakota is starting @ 8 PM. Apparently the women 'ballers have a 1:00 appointment with the BTN or the goofs want to delay their loss for an hour.
:D

Once again bounceyball takes priority over hockey...

Re: Wisconsin Offseason '10: The Aftermath

From a piece in today's Daily Cardinal :

What really elevates the hockey program to a “third-sport” status, though, is its attendance draw. Last season, the Badgers averaged nearly 14,000 fans per game at the Kohl Center, which essentially is a hockey arena designed to also accommodate basketball.

Oh really?
