Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Badgers 1st goal

Interesting that they called that a no goal on ice and then overturned the call on the ice after the review.

After the reviews I have seen in the last few weeks......everything that I have come to known as making sense in hockey has been tossed out the door.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Posick was saying maybe 6K fans here. That is generous.

Did I see it correct on tv that the puck went in the side under the net that was lifted? I don't see how that can be a goal.....

It was a good goal. Net came off but in college hockey if net is off but doesn't affect play, it doesn't matter. Puck definitely went in the net the right way.

Definitely is a pretty strong word, unless you saw a different camera angle or were behind the net and saw it front and center.

Wow. Ohio St seems to be haunted by the Overtime Ghost of Eaves - their 3rd loss in OT to the gophers this year. Incredible. If we can get a result here, maybe I was wrong and we could catch Ohio St. I doubt it though.

I found it on Twitter-it went inside the peg and should not have been a goal....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Michigan is out playing us by a landslide. And again our players sitting on their butts. 7th straight game of the opposing team standing while we sit during the game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

The puck went inside the post that wasn't dislodged. I'm assuming that the rule is the same as in the NHL - if the goal, peg, and peg hole are all still connected, AND the goal would count if the net hadn't moved, it's a good goal. That's exactly what happened on the Badgers' goal.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

They showed the overhead replay several times. There was NO WAY the puck didn't go in a path that wasn't a legal goal.

...but just now I saw that angle that looked like it went under the outside of the goal. I'm questioning reality right now, but I've seen weirdly deceptive bounces in NHL games before, too.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Did anyone else notice that stretch in the first period where both teams forgot how to hockey? There were lots of bad/missed passes that weren't forced by defenders.

Then both teams remembered how to play well...unfortunately for Wisconsin, the Wolverines' normal level is much higher. That 2 goal margin for most of the third felt like a lot more.

First time I've heard a triple negative sentence.

A twitter feed shows Racine's skate firmly up against the post and the puck traveling at an angle that is wide of the post. The puck enters the net across the portion of the red line that is not in between the goal posts and under the cross bar. How did the net get moved in the first place? Would like to hear the official explanation on this.

A couple of players collided and fell into the far post.

Edit: and good call on my goofy sentence. :) It should've been a double negative.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

woot!

7 games to go means a 7-game winning streak (regular season) and the team could get to .500 at 13-13-6!

But seriously, this is another losing season that gives Eaves 5 losing seasons in 14 years.

Sauer didn't have his FIRST losing season until his 14th year and had 4 losing seasons in 20 years.

Badger Bob coached for 15 years in Madison: he had 2 sub .500 seasons in 15 years. He had 3 NCAA Titles and 4 total NCAA title game appearances in that span.

Hey Barry "I'm not a hockey guy" Alvarez, something is rotten in Madison. Fire the Men's hockey coaching staff and get them back on the path towards excellence. While you're at it, look in the mirror and realize you are a TERRIBLE athletic director.

It was not a good goal. Gopher fan here, so take whatever bias you want into account. I'm known for trying to call it fair and square. That was a horrible call.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

So I had to make a decision today whether to watch the Badgers or go to the UWSP game. Glad I chose right, 5-2 UWSP. Tomorrow's game for UWSP is for the conference title. This will probably make you guys cringe but UWSP is 13-1-0 in their last 14 games with the one loss coming in overtime. Been awhile since the Badgers had one of those streaks...

No kidding, I am in agreement with you.

One of the stranger calls I have seen.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

After the reviews I have seen in the last few weeks......everything that I have come to known as making sense in hockey has been tossed out the door.

Totally crazy eh? Talk about crazy idiotic reffing....Sexton and Compfer collide in the corner, they both go down, right in front of a ref. The ref stares at them and watches Compfer twice push/punch Sexton's head into the ice. No arm goes up, period, the crowd goes nuts. Eventually they both get penalties, Sexton for holding and Compfer for roughing. Here's the question: The ref's arm never went up during the play before the whistle, therefore how can you call Sexton for holding? Holding can only happen during the play. That is BAD refereeing. Malone cuts to the net between the goalie and the D. He clearly tries to avoid hitting the goalie as he cuts through and the goalie's helmet comes off anyway. He gets a roughing call. Awful call. Soleway gets a rinky dinky slash call. Weak sauce. Easily the worst reffed D1 games I've seen all year in person and I've seen 16. I thought the women's refs were bad. Not even close.

I was SHOCKED at the small crowd. I thought with a marquee name in town there'd be at least 10000. Lucky if there were 6000 butts in seats. The whole synchronized smart phone flashlight coordination to Enter Sandman was cool, would have been awesome with a full building.

The game....the shots were 16-8 UW at one point early in the 2nd period, then UW just stopped playing. They got outshot 32-10 from that point forward. Overall the game felt disjointed, not every good flow.

Random player thoughts...I thought Tischke had a strong game. McGuire fell totally asleep on the goal 1 and did not cover the back door. You can tell Kunin is special in person. Matty played a very strong game, I was impressed with him, he really came out far and challenged, that's something you can't necessarily see on tv. The 4th line was very good, Ustaski had the best drive to the net for UW. The first line just looked snakebit, like they are pressing, they blew a 3 on 1. Racine fought the puck the whole night, if they could have pressured him he woulda cracked.

When it was 2-1 it felt like 4-1. I'm very disheartened. At least my sons and I had some quality daddy/son time, we had fun. I was hoping we'd get some free ice cream, knowing UM plays loose and their goalies suck, but it was not to be, I had to pay. I did enjoy my Butterbuger more than I would have enjoyed the custard anyway.

No way that was a goal. Hopefully this link works:

So really they were shut out.

10 games left assuming one at the Little Six tournament and the 2nd consecutive disastrous season will be over. Is it enough to cost MM his job?

With an attitude like this I guess we can't expect anything to change for the better. How obtuse can this clown of an AD be.

Quotable quote from the Todd Milewski article linked below:

The athletic department started planning for decreased men's hockey ticket revenue in 2014-15, projecting a $700,000 decrease that season.

When will that bottom out?

"We hope that we're there," Morris said. "We hope that we have stronger season ticket sales next year."

But athletic director Barry Alvarez downplayed the men's hockey ticket sales downturn in comparison to higher revenue-producing sports football and men's basketball.

"You don't like for it to happen, but hockey is not going to make or break us," Alvarez said. "We don't like that, obviously. We're not satisfied with that. But we've got to keep that big stadium (Camp Randall) full and we've got to keep the Kohl Center full" for men's basketball.
