Further proof he doesn't care.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

With an attitude like this I guess we can't expect anything to change for the better. How obtuse can this clown of an AD be.

Quotable quote from the Todd Milewski article linked below:

The athletic department started planning for decreased men's hockey ticket revenue in 2014-15, projecting a $700,000 decrease that season.

When will that bottom out?

"We hope that we're there," Morris said. "We hope that we have stronger season ticket sales next year."

But athletic director Barry Alvarez downplayed the men's hockey ticket sales downturn in comparison to higher revenue-producing sports football and men's basketball.

"You don't like for it to happen, but hockey is not going to make or break us," Alvarez said. "We don't like that, obviously. We're not satisfied with that. But we've got to keep that big stadium (Camp Randall) full and we've got to keep the Kohl Center full" for men's basketball.

Alvarez is a joke and this article proves he doesn't care about hockey......He should be thinking how much more revenue could be brought in if things were turned around, not that only BB and FB matter.

Truly outrageous when you think of the great tradition of Badger Hockey.

Since BA is of the "minimize loss" philosophy with respect to hockey, does that mean he won't make the obvious decision to get rid of this entire coaching staff?

It doesn't even really make sense. Keeping Camp Randall and Kohl Center (for basketball) full and taking account of men's hockey are really seperate issues. UW has the resources to do all three (and then some). When recent history has proven that men's hockey can consistently draw 13,000-14,000, I don't understand why that would be understated.

There are two radically under-performing teams (on the ice/court & attendence) with men's hockey and women's basketball. Both have the potential of winning big and drawing big crowds. Neither Eaves or Kelsey got an extension last year. Both teams are again performing poorly this year. I have nothing personal against either coach, but I don't see any way how either survive after this season.

Mens Hockey does remind me of Women's basketball's performance for the past decade at least. I attend every Friday Hockey game and have been coming since 1999-2000. No time than now in that period have I sat in those seats knowing the team has no chance against its better opponents at home. Minny and Mich confirm this. I note the kids just quit after the holiday break. They don't play with heart and that points to coaching. This in addition to the huge talent gap being played out each week before our eyes. All coaches must be fired. The assistants are not that bad but with MM at the helm there is no hope. Listen to his interviews and air time on the radio. He is going through the motions.

The current state of the program is the result. I have pledged to my family that goes to games with me that I am out as a season ticket holder if MM is not fired. He has taken out all of the joy and fun Badger Hockey has been in the past.

BA has to go too. Using Hockey as a it just does not matter scape goat for filling Football and BB stadiums wont fly with me. No more money for Badger Athletes at all until BA is gone. He has turned Badger Hockey into a lost cause due to his blatant disinterest. This is all on him. Since 05-06, BA has been seldom seen at the KC for hockey. Take permanent leave BA.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Johnson only had 1 sub .500 season, the 75-76 season he was at the Olympics, one of his assistants was the coach. (bill rothwell)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Badger Bob needs to come down from heaven and give Barry a little hockey advice.

Barry does know that if you put a good product on the ice, it can make money, right? Nevermind, this is Barry we're talking about.

What a sad state of affairs. And honestly, it deadens the rivalry for me. If they become 2000s-MTU-like...and they are close already...*shrug* RIP a good rivalry.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

If only there was a way to show him Wisconsin fans can be passionate about hockey. Something crazy like leading the nation in attendance for decades.

Omfg. my rage could fuel a musk rocket to the god**** beginning of time. I'm calling the ad and I'm calling the badger fund and I'm calling as many numbers as i can for the board of regents. This dismissive bulldhit behavior absolutely cannot stand.

I can't ****ing believe that for the 2nd time (at least) Alvarez tells us via a news reporter that he doesn't give a good goddman flying **** about hockey.

And just what does he expect the kids to feel? The kids on the team who read his horse **** quote? Or read that quote he made memorialized over and over in this thread?

**** him. **** him and the arrogance he rode in on. I don't care about football. In fact I know hope hhey go in a tailspin and re-enter the hilles/Morton years. They deserve it for all the ****s Alvarez does not give toward any other sport

EDIT: left some vm's. Unfortunately alvarez's number bounces you to a general msg with no allowance to leave a vm.

For those who want to call and find a board of regents contact, in case they're not up on the site: badger fund 608-262-1000

They should know. I'm calling Monday morning

I've said this for 5 years. Barry Alvarez was an ok coach. He was not a great coach. If he was great, he would have found a way to win a NC in football. BA made the correct decision to accept a head coaching position at a university that was in terrible shape. No risk for him. Props to BA for turning the FB program around. BA can thank his lucky stars to be AD at UW because he has a long leash due to his perceived status. Bad news for UW fans: BA is not in the league of the top 40 college AD's. He has made poor decisions hiring fb coaches and have not allowed coaches to pay its assistants. Huge reason why UW cannot attract a top caliber coach.

Inability to make a surgical incision to hockey program, along with fb decisions, makes BA a below average AD. BA needs to go.

I dislike the storied hockey program in the shape it is and struggle with the athletic program direction with the current AD. BA is a fat cat with a long leash. Time for someone much better to take the athletic program to the next level. BA is unable to do so.

Really? Who paid the bills In the 70's and 80's? Huh?

Doesn't matter, it's about dough. Bowl games and march madness. Don't get me wrong I get the history and programs should should strive for good coaching and success, but I can see why AD's don't give a ****

You guys deserve a hell of a lot better, that is for sure. My first thought reading his shameful quote is that the man is too stupid to even manage his own message to the press. Then I just realized that he just doesn't give a dam.

Hockey is a revenue sport so he should care. And he is throwing money away by having the program in the tank.

It's like Dave Brandon reincarnated. Wow.

You guys need to cut the head off the snake before you fire Eaves and fix your program. It starts with the AD. What coach is going to want to come and work for a guy that basically just said hockey is of equal weight as rowing?

We staged protests on the lawn of the university president to get that idiot Dave Brandon fired.

Hope you get rid of him. People like that don't belong in charge of athletic departments.

I hate this stupid ****ing argument. More good teams = more $$$$.

Edit: I will forever love Bo Ryan for basically saying "**** you" to Barry saying no to Greg Gard as head coach by stepping down mid season. Class act, unlike Barry.

And it's probably going to pay off as Gard is clearly earning his opportunity to become permanent coach after this year.
