Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I'm generally anti-Bucky for uniforms. I'd rather see an old fashioned look with classic block lettering. But the motion W, in all its Word Art-like non-glory, has never really done much for me either.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

This one (the big bold red/white horizontal stripes with the block "W")is my favorite. For the last season or two this has been the exhibition home game jersey. I bought this one at the beginning of the year expecting to see it against Trinity, but they went with the standard jersey instead. Kind of bummed me out to not see it on the ice this year.

While we are on jerseys...

This interesting tidbit popped up in an article about the bouncyball team yesterday:
The contract between UW and Under Armour includes a clause for existing agreements that include basketballs for the men’s basketball team; footballs and volleyballs in those respective sports; ice hockey sticks, skates, helmets, pants and goalie equipment for the men’s and women’s hockey programs; and gloves, bats, helmets and catching gear for the softball team.

So we'll likely see new sweaters but not sticks, skates, helmets, pants or goalie pads. I hope that the two companies can work together well enough to make sure that the shades match between tops and bottoms. Nothing drives me crazy like watching an NFL game and seeing the pants be a slightly different shade than the jersey, which is a slightly different shade than the helmet. It isn't rocket science!

Agree 100%. They better get the cardinal's to match. This isn't 1963.

I'm a traditionalist on the men's jerseys. Any UW jersey with creme instead of white, and adding black (other than a little homage to Bucky) , is bad. The school colors are cardinal and white. The motion W women's jerseys are sweet.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I still wonder why they made the letters on the primary jerseys smaller four years ago.

hockey tonight against Michigan.

i don't even really feel like going to the games anymore, it feels like a chore. But since I paid for the tickets I feel obligated to go. The halls are empty, the seats are empty, overall sense of apathy. What they spent on TVs & install they could have used to buy out Eaves.

This is a big reason why I'm glad I have student tickets. Sunk costs aside, it still feels like something I both should and want to do despite the state of the program.

What they spent on TVs & install they could have used to buy out Eaves.

The quantity of new TVs is pretty silly. If you stop on the concourse, you can often easily see 4 screens at a time without turning your head to look around! I understand why t hey wanted to add some hanging from the ceiling - you can now see them as you walk down the concourse without going sideways - but the sheer quantity is just goofy.

It will make sense in a few years.

Just wait, there will be some sort of sponsored advertising on the screens. Something that takes a few inches on a side and a few inches on the top/bottom. UW can go to the customer and say "we can put your message/branding on XXXX screens".

They made the investment now to reap the rewards later.

To bad they didn't make the investment in a new coach last year to reap the rewards later.

Seriously, does EVERYTHING have to come back to Eaves???

I'm sure that the budget that this project came out of was some sort of building/infrastructure allocation that has absolutely nothing to do with money available for a contract buy out.

I get that most people here want Eaves gone, but does almost every topic have to come back to this???

I am just using your analogy / explanation of excessive spending for TV's and relating it back to a UW program that is in the tank.

This is the men's hockey thread, they suck, and the head coach should have all of the blame, as hard as that is for you to understand.

How about I state it this way for you to understand: with a better hockey program you can have even more money wasted on TV's due to increased revenue.....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

They haven't. Most of the alternate jerseys have been some sort of 'throwback' with a more old-school 'W' in the design or something along those lines.

One of my favorite alternates, though, has to be this one from the women's team a while back. If only because I absolutely love the 'academic' logo for the school far better than I will ever love the motion 'W'. https://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/fan_shot_images/311235/BY5uIU3CIAAL0Mf.jpg

Those are pretty cool; I don't remember them.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

And "they suck" indicated the program, not the kids. It isn't their fault and they have worked hard most of this year....

Because I am sure you will take that as a rip on the kids, which it isn't.

Because he is the reason we are in this mess? He got howie to leave. He hired crappy assistant coaches. He dictates recruiting and responsibilities that lead us to unbalanced classes. He is the reason that we suck at scoring. That we don't shoot on the power play

The names on the jerseys and on the bench change but we still have the same problems. So our problems do indeed go back to him.

As we have beaten into the ground, former players are telling recruits to avoid the program. At the Blake geoffrieon hockey showcase this summer players didn't really interact with him. But they did with osecki and Johnson. I had a front row seat. I could have flicked his ear if the glass wasn't there.

The official Twitter feed of Wisconsin Hockey is now tweeting that Stepan has scored for the Rangers - during a Badger game!?. I guess you have to find good news wherever you can find it.
