Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Not going to make it this weekend - I went to the Saturday game against Mich last year. Made it to the end of the first down 4-0 and I looked at the Mrs. and kids and said "let's go back to the hotel and go swimming". It was a better use of our time.

I can't put my kids through that again, so we picked two Saturdays for this year I thought they had chances at, tOSU and Alaska. That worked about as well as I could have hoped for. Shoot out win (tie) and an outright win - and ice cream both nights.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Wow factor of all the empty seats. I still get that every game.

you will like all the TV's in the corridors, so you can see the game as you endlessly search for a concession stand that is open (in the upper concourse level for sure)

So much to look forward to! Even more than last year! We don't spend money at concession stands, no biggie. BA gets enough of our money with the tickets and fees.

I was thinking about this idea yesterday...If I were a season ticket holder, under the circumstances that we are in today, I'd not give up my tickets and I'd still go to every game, even though I am firmly off the MM bandwagon. I totally understand why people did give up season tickets and why they don't come. There's no right or wrong on the way individual fans are dealing with this.

That's the single game I went to last year, what a train wreck that game was.

I kind of agree.

Either you still have your tickets and you try to get to the games, or do you gave up your tickets and you don't go to the games...

Of course there will be people who say "by continuing to go to games you are showing the administration that everything is OK and no changes are needed" and conversely "by not going to the games you are really punishing the players that have done nothing wrong in this situation, they need and deserve our support".

It is a tough spot for fans to be in. Winning fixes everything, what is it going to take to get back to those winning ways?

Don Granato
Tony Granato
Mark Oseicki (sp?)
Etc

Hiring one of the above or more/completely clearing the coaching deck will the best way to get back to winning consistently

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I'm going Saturday which will undoubtedly be my only game of the season.

Got tickets from a vendor, so luckily I didn't have to shell out any money.

I'm not wearing white though.

Yeah white out was a pretty stupid idea, red out would have been the smart move so the empty seats blended in. Also, who the hell chants "lets go white" at the games....

HATE the whiteout idea. HATE IT. I'm still chanting "let's go RED!" I will be wearing a white home jersey, I just don't know if I wear a men's or women's. I like the idea of promoting the women's team at the men's game by wearing the women's jersey. I may buy a white out shirt because I like it, though then I'm supporting the white out concept. I'm so conflicted.

I like the idea of UM wearing yellow or blue jerseys and UW the reds.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Badger women had a "Whiteout" game earlier this year and either people didn't know or didn't care. Place was close to full and maybe 25% of people were wearing white at most. Never would have guessed they were trying to have a Whiteout.

When I think Whiteout, I think Winnipeg Jets first round playoff game not a college hockey game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I like the idea of promoting the women's team at the men's game by wearing the women's jersey.

With all of the variety of jerseys that you'll see at a typical game would anyone even notice?

I usually see 3-4 versions of the "current" jersey, some Reebok, some Adidas, some red, some white
I usually see another 2-3 versions of "alternate" jerseys, the "big W" jersey, the Camp Randall Jersey
And then there are always a few of the "unofficial" jerseys, some company makes a red/white jersey and writes "Wisconsin" on it.

Honestly, I would have to guess if asked to pick a women's jersey out of a lineup of the above mentioned jerseys.

But then again, I've never been to a women's game, so I don't have a solid idea what they look like. I've seen pictures on various websites (USCHO, UWBadgers), but I don't recall anything that jumped out as a major difference.

Badger women have been very consistent with the large motion W over their 16 years. They also have a sweet-looking home red alternate that has the diagonal Wisconsin along with the drawstring neck.

While I'm sure they've done it at some point (maybe even recently), I can't remember the men going with the large motion W.

I used to do a version of that by wearing a hockey jersey when I went to a football game.

Despite the smallest hockey student section I've seen since coming to Madison, I've been seeing more hockey jerseys at football and basketball games than has been typical. I've always seen a handful of hockey jerseys at other sports, but I wouldn't be surprised if more students who are still on board with UW hockey are deliberately doing it to show some support for that program while cheering on the other teams.

It makes sense. I'd say that's pretty much in line with my motivations when I would do it.

Hopefully it works. This has probably been true since even before I came to Madison ('03) and for longer than most of us would care to admit, but the hockey program has needed the love far more than the basketball and football teams, that's for sure. Every little bit helps. Especially when we finally, mercifully get to reboot the program.

They haven't. Most of the alternate jerseys have been some sort of 'throwback' with a more old-school 'W' in the design or something along those lines.

One of my favorite alternates, though, has to be this one from the women's team a while back. If only because I absolutely love the 'academic' logo for the school far better than I will ever love the motion 'W'. https://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/fan_shot_images/311235/BY5uIU3CIAAL0Mf.jpg

I don't fully recall exactly which seasons some of these were from (other than the ones from the 05-06 and 09-10 season where they wore some of these in football stadiums), but a little trip down Third/Alternate/Hideous Jersey Memory Lane:

(I'm not positive about some of these if they were ever worn at games or if they were just random designs that showed up in Bucky's Locker Room)

I liked how those looked in pictures, but I surprisingly didn't really like them as much in person. The cream-white rather than the usual bright white made it seem like somebody dimmed the lights, but only on the Wisconsin players. The crest also looked like it was just kind of slapped on there. I don't know why I had such a different impression in person versus the pictures. Then UW went on to play the worst home game of the year in a building that totally lacked the festive atmosphere of the previous Fill-The-Bowl, even before the game. Now I associate those jerseys with that massive disappointment.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I think the traditional women's motion W jersey looks better than most the men's alternate/special jerseys over the years. With that said, I thought the City Classic jerseys were pretty cool with the old-school block lettering.

As much as I love Bucky as a mascot, I don't like his whole body or face on the front of a jersey. Women have a well-placed small full body Bucky on the shoulders.

I loved the the one they wore at Lambeau. Also liked the most recent one (block W) and wish they'd bring it back and wear it once in a while.

Agreed that the women's generally look better. I love the small Bucky. The men had an alternate one year with a huge Bucky taking up the whole front of the jersey (all the way up to the shoulder if I remember correctly). I generally am a proponent of having Bucky on the uniforms; but, those men's alternates were terrible.

I do love the Lambeau alternate (so much I own one of those - got compliments on that one from Maine fans at the Frozen Four that year).
