Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Honest question: there was no G who tried out and was cut/didn't make the team in pre-season? No former recruit that is basically a FA? That sort of thing?

This isn't professional or even Jr hockey....you can't just go out and sign a street free agent once the semester has started. The 3rd string/walk on goalie position is usually set in stone before the season starts and not like Jr hockey where you have mass tryouts and cuts. This was basically a shout-out to the student body for an extra goalie for target practice. Your reward in the Mike Eaves goalie system is in return for being a practice goalie, you get to dress for home games.

Don't you just had that whole pesky thing of being a STUDENT athlete?

Jan 22 was the last day for enrollment.

So assuming that we know about the injury 2 weeks ago, we would still have to find someone out in the minor leagues who can:
1 - move to Madison immediately
2 - apply to college immediately
3 - get accepted to college immediately
4 - get cleared by the NCAA immediately

Or you can find someone who already has 1, 2, 3 checked off and just deal with 4.

I think that the move that the team made was the only logical and viable move.

Agree completely! Not to mention why would a goalie leave their current team mid-season to be a practice goalie for 6 weeks, and thereby starting their NCAA eligibility if they had planned on playing any D3 hockey.

Spartans win. And once again we are in last place.

Can we reach the lofty goal of 5th place? Yeah, that battle for 5th is a real clash of the titans.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Barry Alvarez would like to remind you that we didn't lose last night.

ALL IS WELL, <strike>PLEBEIAN LOSERS</strike> HOCKEY FANS!!!

Maybe if IL, IA, IN, MD, NE, Rutgers, Northwestern, and Purdue had teams, we wouldn't be in last.

Well, it looks like we will get through Saturday ok too and the Badgers will not pick up another loss for the entire weekend. Woohoo!

If tonight's score holds, the Badgers will be 1-7-2-1 in the B6, sitting in 6th place with ten games remaining in the regular season. Our 6 total points are 3 behind Sparties' 9 points, but the Badgers have 2 games in hand.

Prediction time: What will the Badgers final B6 regular season record be and can we catch Michigan St. and maybe even Ohio State for the coveted 4th Place B6 trophy?

Passing Ohio St/getting 4th is a pipe dream. I think that best case scenario is 4 more wins. I think we find a way to sweep Sparty at home, and get another win elsewhere (either Penn St or Michigan at home - likely Penn St). I think those 3 wins are just enough to get 5th.

2 more wins at most. Regardless, it looks like a Thursday afternoon matchup with Michigan State at the X for the right to get beat up by Minnesota or Michigan on Friday night.

In other Wisconsin hockey news, UW-Eau Claire just spent a weekend down at Arizona State. Both nights ended in 3-3 ties with the Blugolds winning the shoutout Friday night and the Sun Devils winning the shootout Saturday. EC looked pretty good and was outplaying ASU for long stretches...

Congrats to UWEC on their play this weekend.

But this should only highlight what a ****** poor job MM has done with this program as two of UW's stellar 6 wins this season came against the mighty
ASU.

Gee I hope this doesn't affect our pairwise ranking. I guess the UWEC coach was able to get his horses out of the barn and ready for the race this past weekend.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

This is NOT meant as a shot at UWEC, so to anyone that considers themselves a Blugold supporter -I apologize.

Submit this as Exhibit #5438 (or whatever the number would be at right now) in the case of MM and BA's ongoing negligent homicide of Wisconsin Men's Hockey:

"Our Badgers currently have only 6 wins on the year, 2 of which came against a school (ASU) that is making it's debut at the D1 level. This team felt it necessary to schedule games against a D3 program within our own state, and that D3 program was able to record two ties (forget the shootouts) against this new D1 program."

While not necessary - at least in most people's eyes here - this has to be seen as more ****ing evidence as to how far this program has fallen.

Ugh....here is a thought. I can't answer this - I don't have enough knowledge on the players at the D3 schools within the state. But let's take the top 20 of them and call them the D3 All-Stars for just a moment. We give them 2 weeks to practice together to find some modicum of cohesion together. Put them in a weekend series, one game at the KC and one game at UWSP or SNC. Have the coach at SNC coach them. How does that series turn out? I know it will never happen, but based upon the transitive property used here, UW vs ASU, ASU vs UWEC - based upon the current condition of the UW program, these games I think might be closer than we would like to see.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

Basically, as I have always said outside of a couple of top end guys per D1 teams, the D3 guys are just as competitive. An accumulation of the so called D3 stars would easily beat this iteration of the badgers, or for that matter any number of other D1 programs. College hockey is simply about opportunity and circumstance for most players.

I'm thinking of going to see the final women's home game on the 14th, TimothyA or anyone have advice as to whether I need to purchase tickets online now or??? Do they sell out every game?

I would recommend buying tickets ahead of time. It will be Senior Day and, if they win Saturday, it will be to clinch the WCHA regular season title. They have sold out the last 4 out of 5 games and were within less than 100 of selling out the other. If you can get downtown, you'll save "service fees" buying direct at the ticket office.

I concur, buy ahead. I was shocked the St. Cloud series sold out.

I've got a triple header this weekend, lads Friday, then gals Sat/Sun. I'm really excited about the men's seats, first row 2nd tier. I feel bad that some season ticket holder probably gave these sweet seats up.

I wonder if the Cavalinni D experiment will continue? I would worry MI's speed may overmatch his limited experience.
