Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

You weren't expecting them to lose all the games the rest of the way, were you? I'm sure they'll pick up a few more wins along the way. AU is in their timezone talent-wise. Let's get the sweep lads and head into the bye on the positive wave.

Perrin said McGuire was playing well on D. Looks like Hurley's days are numbered. It will be fascinating to see if McGuire can displace regular D in the line-up. What a commentary that would be. At this point he's my 7th man choice.

I love big Jed Soleway as much a fan can, he's one of my favorites, but he's trying too hard to be a physical presence. Last week he should have got a CFB, and he got 1 yesterday. Let the game come to you.

I almost forgot to talk attendance. I wonder if it was bad to due the no-name opponent or negative effect of the drubbing UW took last weekend. I was guessing they might get 10000 for AU. It's not a marque matchup, but the game is in the heart of hockey season when people should be tuned into the game overall. The picture I saw on twitter last night looked just awful. I really feel bad for the kids.

Soleway has been next to worthless both ways this year. Needs to sit a game or series.

It took eaves until mid January last year to make players sit. Now that we have five wins something is going right and why make changes? Change is hard and scary. That is why we still dump and chase.

Is there a team that does not dump and chase?

Dump n' chase? More like dump n' change.

Well it was a job well done by the Big Ten then.

I agree. He hasn't been playing well at all. So anyone think we keep McGuire at D and Zirbel on the 4th line? I mean we are 6-4-2 with Zirbel in the lineup...

I agree. And keep Johnson where he is also, he was close to a hatty last night.

Some thoughts after attending the victory vs. Fairbanks on Saturday evening:

1 - Anyone that has a child that can take part in the "kids fan tunnel" on designated nights should take advantage of it. EVERY time my kids do it, they think it is awesome. If you are 8 and 10 years old, how could you not?

2 - The honoring of the 2005-06 championship teams was solid. I think the Athletic Office did as well as they could based on the number of players (from the men's team at least) that are still involved in the game. The video of Skille's goal in 3OT vs Cornell still gives me goosebumps. Great to see so many of the women's team members come back.

3 - Crowd was listed at 9604. Sure didn't look like it, but I am not a good judge of that historically. For two "evenly mediocre" teams, the game was very entertaining for two periods. UW obviously took it to them I thought in the 3rd, and it was reflected in the score. Ice cream is always good.

4 - Sorry if this was discussed before, but I was really watching Jurusik as the team came out to start the 2nd period. He was in NO HURRY to get down to the far end for the start of the 2nd period. He hung around on the opposite side (near the team's locker room tunnel) stretching and warming up before he finally headed down to the far end in front of the student section. I just thought that was unique. Also, Jurusik at least that period did not do the traditional scraping/scratching of the ice in his crease at the start of the second period. For all of the hockey I have watched, I don't believe I have ever seen a goalie NOT do that at the start of a period. Has anyone ever noticed him not do this before, and does anyone know why he wouldn't do it?

5 - It was a surprisingly chippy game (and I'm not complaining) for a NC series and two teams that don't seem to have a lot of history against one another.

Any time this team can get a "W", it's a good night - unless it means BA keeps MM around after this year.

I noticed this during the Saturday Minnesota game. Don't know if he's done it prior to that but he was lining up like he was gonna play in net on the non-student side. He skated to the net, Minnesota's goalie came over, he moved off to the side, stretched, then went all the way down to the student side. Very unique.
