Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

4 - Sorry if this was discussed before, but I was really watching Jurusik as the team came out to start the 2nd period. He was in NO HURRY to get down to the far end for the start of the 2nd period. He hung around on the opposite side (near the team's locker room tunnel) stretching and warming up before he finally headed down to the far end in front of the student section. I just thought that was unique. Also, Jurusik at least that period did not do the traditional scraping/scratching of the ice in his crease at the start of the second period. For all of the hockey I have watched, I don't believe I have ever seen a goalie NOT do that at the start of a period. Has anyone ever noticed him not do this before, and does anyone know why he wouldn't do it?

I haven't seen amyone mention that here, but he has done that for every game. His movements and timing are pretty much identical from game to game, and I wonder if part of the reason he does that is just to slightly throw the other goalie off right before turning to go stretch by the half-boards.

a goalie with weird potentially OCD/Neurotic behaviors and superstitions used to "scratch that itch" or to throw off the other team? I'm going to call your bluff

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

You might as well just find some ex Minnesota high school player to be your goalie.

I mentioned it on here last Saturday. I thought he had a concussion or was just extremely rattled. Looks like he just likes to mess with the opposing goalie. Hey, that's fine with me.

"..........He went online and we looked at club sports, we looked at intramurals and found a couple of young men who had played high school hockey......"

Is that what it's come down to?

I am no fan of MM but to be fair, he needed to find a current student with some skill to help in practice and (let's hope not) play in an emergency. I am not sure how else he would go about doing that.

This guy is a third stringer. No junior goalie is gonna leave their team to apply to Madison just to play third stringer. We still have Jurusik and Miller.

I'm tempted to give you the benefit of the doubt and read this as a mostly sarcastic comment. But from what I've seen in the past I'm more inclined to read this as honestly grumpy and upset. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I know that tone can be something difficult to establish on here.

Assuming that you are actually grumpy and upset about this...I'll say the following

I'm going to have to agree with some of the other responses. With the limited timeframe (need a body ASAP) and the factors in play (3rd string, no game time, just practice, probably no scholarship money) this is pretty much the only route; find someone already on campus and do the best that you can with them.

Let me ask you this: What exactly could the staff have done that would have been acceptable in your eyes?

They could have hooked me up with some new pads and let me take a couple night classes for free.

So what, exactly, happened to Grunwald/why did he need surgery?

Relax boys, I didn't realize I put a mad face instead of a winking eye until my phone started lighting up. OF COURSE I was kidding; a little lighthearted fun on Groundhog Day. I've been around this game enough to know there's no way in hell Eaves would hit the student body for a player, albeit practice squad player, and Indy Badger is spot on. By the way KaMiGo, I'm not grumpy...far from it. Upset, ****ed, frustrated, dissatisfied (is that a word), disgruntled, with this program, yes. Life is too short to be grumpy. ;) <- There, I did it correctly. I did notice that those who "know" me didn't respond to my quip.

How come nobody ATTACKED you for that statement? ;) <-

Don't know - I find it bothersome that hockey teams never tell you what the injury is.

I guess that explains why MM has stuck with Jurusik despite some tough outings. I only saw Grunwald play that half game against Trinity Western and he looked pretty good.

I also wish Miller would get some games now and again - he gave up that one really bad goal in one of the early games, was taken out and never seen nor heard of again until that brief appearance in the Minnesota blistering.

They can't tell you what the injury is, patient rights are law.

Honest question: there was no G who tried out and was cut/didn't make the team in pre-season? No former recruit that is basically a FA? That sort of thing?

I swear that any injury that happens to a UW football or basketball player gets out to the public pretty quickly. Hockey (both men's and women's) keeps the injuries much closer to the vest.

Miller isn't good. He's third stringer quality that can play in a pinch. At least that's what I saw from him during the Saturday Minnesota game. He was sliding all over the place. Positioning was terrible.

At least MM says upper or lower body, MJ does and the media staff do not even acknowledge the player is injured, they just don't play.
