WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

HAH, yes! Those marketing emails **** me off every time I get one, because it is not an awesome throwback event, it's a we-caved-to-the-WIAA-and-let-high-schoolers-use-our-building event that they're trying to pretend is awesome with marketing. Do you think I'm that stupid, Athletic Department? I like a GOOD beer before/after the game, and at arenas that sell it I'll sometimes enjoy one during, but I am SO not excited to have a bunch of people leave with a few minutes left in the period to go chug ****ty beer in the basement only to be late for the start of the next period.

That said, they'll probably get a few walk up ticket sales. We've decided to go, but counted on it not selling out so we can walk up and (hopefully?) avoid the Ticketmaster fees.

You can never avoid the "fees". Please let us know if you still get charged some sort of fee on your walk up purchase.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

I was a member of the BLC at that time for just that reason. Esser's Best!

I'm not sure that the BLC even exists anymore. They took it away because new weight rooms and academic facilities for athletes went into that space.

Esser's Best! It was like being in someone's basement for a beer party, but it worked.

I think the maw of the Big Red Athletic Dept. swallowed up the Blue Line Club.

I'll try to remember to post back here either way. I know sometimes venues still charge the fees for in-person, at-the-arena sales, but I did see a post on facebook indicating the coliseum was not charging the fees on direct sales there. Not sure how reliable that is, but it seems worth a try. With fees they cost more than face on season tickets, and we may not go if we didn't think we could at least maybe avoid it. (I know there was a presale for season ticket holders and maybe we could have avoided additional fees that way, not sure, but I was ****ed off and not committed to going at that point.) Now, I'm ****ed off, but after the series we saw in Omaha last weekend I do kind of want to be at these games. (We were there, it was awesome.)

I think the maw of the Big Red Athletic Dept. swallowed up the Blue Line Club.

I recall reading that the space in the KC was converted to a weight room, which is IMHO reasonable, since that is kind of an appropriate use for an athletic facility...

I agree about it being a reasonable use for that space. I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the Athletic Department basically absorbed the Blue Line Club into the UW Foundation. My only gripe with that is that my membership fees for the BLC would in part go to help support youth hockey in the area, which was important to me. I'm not sure - doubt actually - that the UW Athletic Dept continued that after the BLC went away. But I don't know for certain either.

If you only need two tickets, use the student code on-line and get $7 tickets + relatively reduced Ticketmaster fees. Just an option.....

Thanks for the response. That makes some sense.

Excellent post. Send that to the athletic department.

If it was a throwback event, ticket prices would be throwback too. I'm sure after parking I will will be out $40 before I even walk in to the Coliseum. And that's fine because I want to go, big series, it will be fun, BEER albeit ****ty beer. But as others have mentioned, the marketing of these games has been **** poor and even now, when a league championship is on the line, marketing is still **** poor.

Attendance note: I have a friend who is purchased tickets yesterday for Saturday night's game and I think and she was in section 317 which she said was behind one of the nets. I don't know if that signifies a big boost in ticket sales or if she grabbed two tickets and didn't care where the seats were.

I think tickets are still available all around the upper level. Nice thing about Ticketmaster (relatively-speaking) is that you can pick your exact seats.

Yeah, still better seats available than 317. The seats in the end are obstructed view (can't see anything behind the net below you - just the crossbar and goalie), so not the best choice when others are/were available.

LOL, that's what I thought too. She was freaking out because she didn't realize the tickets weren't included in season ticket package. And had never been to the Coliseum for a game - she asked me "where is the beer?" :D

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

It wasn't that long ago that UW did a **** poor job of marketing the Camp Randall games and had overpriced tickets for that event. They somehow think that slapping UW on something means everyone rushs out of their house to attend.

Did students even go to the game in Chicago last month? In large numbers?

They just see max dollar signs, not common sense. Anyone who goes to school for a marketing degree needs to get put on a slow boat to China and shut the engine off half way there.

Don't forget you can live stream the women's playoff game against the sue this afternoon around 4 from the wcha website. They have to basically win this game to keep their ncaa chances alive.

Let's go RED!

Was this posted earlier? I'll read back... but it's actually been five going on six years since I've been a student so if it requires a *valid* ID I'm out of luck. (How has it been that long?!?!)

It's a loophole that UW and Ticketmaster probably don't really care about. Just enter the student code online and you can get tickets. Only drawback is you can only get 2. I printed them out and have them in hand for tomorrow night. I wish I was only out 5-6 years. I watched Shuchuk play at the Coliseum.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Oh, and you may have to stand all game. For me, that's worth it for the deep discount.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

We got our tickets a couple of weeks ago by going to the Coliseum box office. There were no additional fees at that time. Also, I was at the state high school tourney last week and paid $6.00 for parking.

I know, and that's TOTALLY fine! I spent seven years in the student section (4 undergrad + 1 getting someone to buy me tickets + 2 masters) at the KC, and during undergrad we were ticket line campers. I'd give a lot to be back in 115A at the KC, but we decided we had to start building priority as old people with no further degrees in the forseeable future.

I'll try that code when I get home from work...

If enough people have the same thought and the games do sell out on account of walk-up sales, given the circumstances, I may shed at least one tear of joy.

Not in large numbers from what I heard, but I definitely recognized a few student faces on TV. And the band. But there was nothing special offered for the students for that game.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Does anyone know what the carry-in policies are for this weekend's games?
