WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

If people think Eaves should be fired, that's fine. I'm certainly too wore out to argue against it at this point if that's what you think. I personally wouldn't do it, but can understand why people feel that way. Certain standards haven't been met, and I understand that.

I actually wouldn't even argue Solo's point that this team lacks talent, because this roster does. I Know I've said otherwise in the past, but it's clear that there isn't enough high end talent throughout the entire roster. Some kids just aren't stepping up like they were projected to at this point in their careers.

But actively hoping that the current team doesn't succeed so that he can be fired is where I draw the line. Absolute bizarro world stuff.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

I agree that the lack of winning is the major factor in the woeful attendance, my argument was that part of the problem was the teams scheduled at the KC. Giving away the Saturday Minnesota game was inexcusable to this fan. I do not like "gimmick" games. I almost hope its down-pouring rain in Chicago next weekend.

Perhaps Barry Alvarez can pull a Pat Richter, and hire somebody who can do for hockey what Richter did for football in hiring Alvarez. Sadly, I don't think he'll notice until the KC is 2/3 empty. The way things are going, maybe the men can play at LaBahn.

They have noticed. I was discussing this with a freind who's knows someone who works for UW in the athletic dept. Shall I say "BEER GARDEN" may be in the future. He informed me they are discussing options to rectify the attendance. Whether that be beer, new coach etc, he could not elaborate. And yes he said they can make the Beer Garden happen despite NCAA rule about on campus facilities.

Speaking of a Beer Garden, will the Coliseum be serving beer for the St. Cloud series?

Wouldn't that be cool?! They should also allow smoking (i don't smoke) in between periods on the second concourse behind the nets. That always made for a slight haze in the building; that was ****ing intimidating!! They should allow ALL banners hanging from the chain link behind the goalies from the second concourse. (Including the Canadian flag which I proudly used to hang as close to the American flag as possible). Also, not only open the ice level beer gardens, be sure they are also open on the first concourse. If the Coliseum is ANYTHING close to what is was, fans who have never been there will have a blast.

And how about the Rumble Rink Twins? Ref-O-Meter? Rubber chickens hanging from trombone slides? Water bottle squirts hitting opposing players?

(Hey you kids, get off my lawn.)

I believe that it is a Big Ten rule, not an NCAA rule, that limits alcohol sales in on-campus facilities.

At this point, all I want is this UW team to step it up and show enough fortitude and pride to actually make out of the first round of the WCHA playoffs and get to the F5. That's what I need at this point for me to not consider this season a complete waste.

Chuck, talent is but one variable that influences on-ice results. I'm not ready to concede that this team lacks overall talent. It lacks talent in specific areas (specifically offensively from the defense) and lacks depth of talent. But I also think that overall Eaves is squandering a larger portion of the overall talent that exists on this roster which is why the talent level appears worse than it is and the results have been so dismal this season.

Stop the world and let Chuck and I off!

We agree on something.

I still want to make the tourney and would never root against my own team. Puncher's chance baby, if we can get in! Or maybe we could play spoiler in round one.

Now if we don't get in though, it won't be bitterly disappointing as I don't expect that we have much of a chance of making it at this point.

And... if we don't get in I hope it turns up the heat big time on the agents for change.

Chuck - I wouldn't put much stock in people saying they want us to miss. I understand the place that those comments are coming from, but I believe that everyone on here wants us in and isn't rooting against us.

Can't take everything typed on here at face value. For instance, I didn't really pull out nut hairs during the Gopher/Jan game on Friday night, but maybe you can understand the place where that comment came from? No?

Never mind. :D

I think that beer was sold the last time I was at a game at the Coliseum. Maybe 05 WCHA playoffs? It was against UAA and I have photos from it with Robbie Earle among others. Anyway, pretty sure that beer was sold as it's off campus.

My guess is that beer will be sold this time too.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the Coliseum will be anything like it was. I'm guessing that the games won't sell very well as they weren't part of the season ticket package. At this point, what's going to drive sales? A chance to walk down memory lane? Doubt it.

My experience in going back has been to realize how much nicer the KC is. More comfortable, better sight lines (at least from my seats), better concourses, etc, etc, etc... BLASPHEMY ALERT: The Coliseum is a dump. Sure, I loved it back in the day, but the KC is simply better.

The atmosphere was certainly better back at the Coliseum, but that had a lot to do with factors that won't be instantly recreated by simply going back to that building, imho.

That year that we played UAA, the Friday and Saturday games were well attended as they were part of the season ticket package. The series went to a game 3 on Sunday and iirc, there were less than 2000 there as it was walk up sales only.

I'm predicting maybe 3-5k at each game. Hope I'm wrong, but I won't be going coz like I said, it's a dump, imho.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

despite the fact I want a coaching change I could never hope for UW to lose in order to accomplish that.

for one thing I still want them to win, period. DESPITE absolutely every negative facet I see being presented by this coaching staff and team. I want them to win for themselves and then for the fanbase.

... Re: The Dane, man...I just may get tickets for old-times sake. I miss the banners 100% and if I get a chance to see "Canadian Club" again and a few others, as well as maybe, just maybe bringing back some old cheers it would make my hockey season! also...how about "goalie seive, a husky on a stick!"

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Sometimes it says something when a team doesn't have its best fastball, and can still find a way to win.

Agree with you most of the time, but what I saw Saturday was a team get up 3 - 0 on a good first period and two huge mistakes by the Beaver goalie. After that the effort went away. They were getting beat to pucks and had trouble getting out of their own zone. It's one thing to not score a lot but be working hard. It a lot different to get out worked, out hustled, and have play controlled by the 11th place team in the league.

We are not consistently physical either other than the Little's and Kerdiles who had a nice check at the bench. That is one way to get the crowd in the game and wear down your opponent. I look forward to the Little/Dahl line getting on the ice.

And the powerplay... well I just won't go there.

I won't hope for losses, but like I said, the attendance alone shows something has to change.

I can assure you beer was sold when I attended games in the late 80's.

As I recall, the drawback was getting people back into their seats after intermissions.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Looking forward to the St. Cloud series, but is anyone else disappointed that the Athletic Dept basically washed their hands of this series? Have Friday night seats, 5th row behind the benches. Figured we would atleast be given a shot to purchase comparable seats. When I asked, the ticket department just sent me to TicketMaster. They could have done a little work to promote this.

Honestly, I'm just surprised they didn't move the games to LaBaen.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

They had requests go thru the UW quite some time ago for the St Cloud series, it was at the same time as the outdoor game. Tickets at least at that time were only $14 for the St Cloud game.

Even with that earlier email this season, I got a feeling attendance is going to be pretty bad not being part of the season ticket package.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Crainer, there was a chance to request tickets at the coliseum that came with the season ticket renewal, as that is how I got mine. I don't know if there comparable seats or not but I got 4 Friday and 6 Saturday for those two games.

Almington, La Bahn only holds like 2,200 fans. Great place to watch hockey but not nearly enough seats there.

Yes, but moving the games to LaBahn would 1.) not cost the university any extra money 2.) make it a very limited ticket (for what could be a very important series) and 3.) you think that the university cares about anything except the bottom line? Limit student tickets to ~700 total each night and charge regular ticket prices ($24 or so) and sell the place out and maybe actually have some energy in the building. I'd have come down to to experience a one time event like that. I'm with Gurt the coliseum may have major historical significance to the Uw program, but I went to the 2005 games and the place is a dump by any modern standards.

I'd have gone to that! To see games in that little place?

Never gonna happen, but would have been cool.

I was/am not actively hoping they lose, I was simply projecting the impact of them making it (which is very very unlikely) on the long term. I don't see them having a max of 3 loses the rest of the season.

I thought UW was going to the Frozen Four this season?

Agreed, but you can drink beer in the basement.
