Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

You make your own design and upload the photo. Gurt, are you up to the task?

Not sure they'd go for my, er, artwork.

Might be fun to submit something though, just to see how they react. :D

Maybe just throw some paint on a sheet and watch it dry. I shouldn't be so nasty about my team, but watching UW only getting 20 shots on BS's goalie Saturday night still has me in a fowl mood, and it's all your fault, Gurt.

A win tonight no matter how bad they play would be a great tonic.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Win or lose, I just expect to see a big effort. Man for man the gooph's are probably better and I can handle losing tonight. I just can't handle lackadaisical play.

Go Red!

I only guaranteed you 2 seats in the a specific location. Your enjoyment of the event was outside of my control.

Did you honestly think it would look better in person!?!:p:D

Some other sucker (actually the guy who buys those Saturday seats) paid me money for tonight's game. :)

P.S. My tix for the Penn State Sunday game are available. $10 each.

:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

They were playing BSU for heaven's sake, coming off a 40 shot night! If a guy goes to the whore house, you kinda expect, you know....bad example. If a guy goes to the bar, you kinda expect to get a few beers if you lay money on the bar.

Pencil me in on the PSU (2 tickets?) tickets.

I'll sell you mine for $15 on Sunday, you'll have $ leftover for parking.

The KC is finally full tonight, too bad some of the people are wearing **** and **** colored jerseys they just pulled out of the toilet from the mom's basement. At least they can spell...

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

interesting game tonight. I was in Row A behind the Wisconsin Net for periods 1 and 3

It's been a while since I've been that close to the action.

quick thoughts

UW - Schulze needs to gain some muscle, in numerous situations behind his net he was muscled off the puck pretty easily
I don't know what it looked like for others but for me tonight, the go-to guys didn't step up. Kerdiles and Zengerle just aren't playing like they should be. possibly (likely) there isn't enough skill around them and they cannot do it alone.

there was one sequence where the rats had UW running around and had a brilliant pass out front where Rumpel saved Derek Lee's bacon for missing his man. Lee turned around and said "holy ****!" to Rumpel...now...I don't know if it was holy **** I missed my man, or holy **** that pass was great/fast whatever. anyway, a funny moment

overall my impression of UW has gotten worse. while the game was close in score and the shots were about 15 apart you could see clearly UW lacks in speed, creativity and tenacity. instead of feeling they're 3-4 players short of turning the corner I honestly believe it's more like 6-8...and by turn the corner I should say turn the corner AND become F4 contenders again

UMN - Sam Warning! great skater. very fast. I'm not sure how good Wilcox is but with a cast in front of him like he's got we may never know. By a wide margin Minnesota is the best team I've seen all season, the quickest, generally the most creative (and I noticed they were a bit bigger than UW on average (or so it seemed anyway)) and their desire for the puck seemed to me far superior to UW's. numerous times I watched Rat players get to the puck first in the O-zone or if they weren't doing that they really muscled their way into the play.

I hope UW can make it a close game Sunday but I'm not very optimistic right now

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Wilcox is as good as advertised. He's saved our bacon a few times.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Eaves said they were going to get back to basics on the pp, but once they set it up it was the same old pass, rotate, pass swing, pass, slide over, pass from the goal line, misconnect, get puck cleared. Watch the rodent pp, run that. We never have a guy open on the back door on the pp. The pk never adjusted to what the rodents were doing. What was more infuriating was watch on ncb sports maine score 3 ppg and bu1. Why must the pp be so freaking complicated? Why must they not move the puck quickly on the pp?

I did like pulling the goalie early ala Gwoz. The rodents really went into a shell then.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

A few thoughts on last night.

1) I was highly disappointed in the officiating. It was a pretty rough game and the officials let them play, which is fine. However I thought Bucky should of gotten a few more calls to go their way. I was surprised that the Ramage penalty in the 3rd was called as interference, it looked like it was a shoulder to shoulder hit and that they were both within a close proximity to the puck. Maybe I had a bad angle. Also it sure looked like Ramage was tripped while driving to the net on the penalty kill in the 2nd. Which in turn the gophers scored 1 minute later on the PP. Last but not least the the checking from behind call had to be made by the referee at center ice, not the one 10 feet away (Couldn't believe that one). With a delayed whistle, I thought they may not even call that one.

2) McCabe is still really banged up and probably shouldn't of played. I appreciate the effort to try and give it a go against your top rival but IMO he just couldn't compete. I'll be interested to see if he suits up on Sunday, especially after getting hammered with that shot in the 3rd.

3) All in all, I thought Bucky put out a good effort and really it was an even game other than the special teams. Especially in the 2nd and 3rd when the shots difference was minimized compared to the 1st.

Hopefully they can get a win tomorrow and still keep their NCAA hopes alive, but it is looking bleak.

I pretty much echo these sentiments. There is letting them play and then there is whatever you call last night. Simply atrocious...both ways. Seconds after they let two guys push each other in the face, they give the Gophers a PP for something that had gone uncalled to that point. Their logic was baffling. The lack of a call on the cfb from the guy right next to it was quite galling as well. Injury-wise, I don't think Mersch has looked too good the last couple of weeks. Lastly, far too many giveaways below our own goal line.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

That was super-fun to watch, and I was impressed with the effort an execution by the Badgers. I enjoyed our band, and after this weekend's games, I decided Seth Helgeson is my least favorite Gopher. Rumpel should keep wearing that hat. I'm still nervous about how UW will finish in the WCHA standings, considering where they are now, total games played, and the 2 teams left on the schedule.

I hear ya on Helgeson. Typical rat bastard punk. Became my least favorite rodent after Kangas graduated.

I was just glancing at the "what if" calculator for the WCHA and I agree that there is good reason to be nervous. This is how I look at it:

1) UW can just win games (3 of 4 should do it) and get home ice.
2) If UW can't do their part, then Denver needs to be the team to cheer against. Unfortunately this requires Badger fans to cheer for the Susie's and the gophers as those are DU's next two opponents.
3) The next best option is Mankato, who is @ CC and then home against North Dakota to end the season.

I don't see the Badgers getting ahead of SCSU, North Dakota or minnesota. UNO could still really bomb, they haven't played as well in the 2nd half, and a Bucky road sweep there would go a long way to having games at the KC again finally this year.

I think if UW had snagged just two points earlier in the season (winning against CC for example) the road would be pretty easy right now.

Unfortunately 7th place is a real possibility.

UNO:

Pre-January 1st: 11-8-1 .575 winning percentage
Post-January 1st 7-4-1 .625 winning percentage

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Does anyone have a PWR predictor up yet? I'm curious to see if it's possible for us to fight our way to a decent PWR position if we do well against SCSU and UNO.

As it is, we're 27th on the PWR, and our poor performance against TUC teams is really hurting us. Four wins and a decent showing in the WCHA tourney could go a long way...

Everyone considers Christmas the half way point since teams don't play again for a stretch until around New Years. Nice try sneaking those losses to Quinnipic into the first half.

1st Half: 11-6-1 0.639 winning %
2nd Half: 7-6-1 0.536 winning %

I thought UNO had done worse though since Christmas, they were once firmly in the NCAA tourney and leading the WCHA, now have some work left to do to make the tourney.

If UW wins the 6 remaining regular season games and sweeps the WCHA first round (and lose in the Thursday game at the F5) they could get up to the 9 seed regardless of what any other teams do, can move as high as the 5 or 6 seed if everything falls the way that they need and if they win a game or two at the F5.

As for the first round of the WCHA playoffs: if UW finishes 6th they will likely host Denver, if they finish 7th or 8th they would likely travel to either Mankato or Denver.

Likely WCHA finishes:
8pts: 4th or 3rd
6pts: 5th, 6th, or 4th
4pts: 6th or 7th
2pts: 7th or 6th
0pts: 7th or 8th

3pts is about a 50% chance of home ice
5pts is about a 75% chance of home ice
6pts is about a 95% chance of home ice

Of course, things will be clearer after this weekend when no teams have games in hand on us. Also, chearing for UND over DU will improve our chances of getting home ice (regardless of what we do against SCSU and UNO) and MN over UMD will ensure that we finish no lover than 7th.
